My Bamboo Mat is old...likely I'm the third owner. The fuchi/kashira look exactly like the ones in your pictures except most of the darker patina is towards the ends of the bamboo segments - giving it a sexy look.
I am not bothered by it -if it any shinier like the menuki - it'll look fake in my opinion.
I am not sure whether the "yellow" is painted on, or whether it is plated brass. Pretty sure the black bands are painted on.
[IGNORE} -First Impression - I can only guess that they are brass plated (looks very aged in color and similar to the seppa and habaki)- too much sanding will rub it right off. I would try using some polish with your fingernail/cloth (seran wrap your ito just in case). If the black comes off - you can always repaint it back.
Mine got coated with lacquer when I hardened the ito - won't be changing color anymore anytime soon.
good luck
edit: looking at the fuchi to rayskin transition on mine ( the socketed rim) - there is a small trickle of yellow down the side indicating to me that it in fact paint - probably the same yellow used on the tip of the leaves on the tsuba.
therefore the nasty "patina"-like stuff is probably dirt and gunk - I don't know of any way to clean it - soap and a towel? - if that doesn't work - you'll have to leave it alone unless you plan on repainted or trying your hand at plating.
Note* - if you've painted metals before and they were not properly cleaned at the time - they can end up looking like this. In this case, there is nothing you can do but to redo the job.

Thx for your reply. If your fuchi looks like mine, then i guess it's normal and that's how it's supposed to be. Knowing that it's normal, i won't try to change it.
