After reading about Tramontina machetes I deceided to get one to try it out. Picked one up At Steves Wholesale Tools in Tulsa Ok for $5.99
They had several in stock checked the blade on them none were sharp. The grind line stopped near the tip on all of them. Since I can sharpen the blade I went ahead and got one.
Stats Blade lenght 22in
thickness 1.1mm
width at base 1 5/8in flaring to 2 1/4in
steel 1070 natural finish
Grip black plastic
Length 5 1/4in
The blade has a natural finish there are some tool marks on the side of the blade, no big deal on a low price machete. This machete is made in Brazil. From the ads I've read they ship it with semi sharp edges so the owner can put the type of edge they want for the job it will be used for. This machete was so dull I used my belt sander to sharpen it instead of files I did use diamond files to put the final edge on it.
The grip is black plastic feels good in the hand. For some reason they put the landyard hole 3/4 of the way up the blade to me it is in a bad position.
It does not come with a sheath, I doubt I'll try to get for for it
After this machete had a proper edge put on it, it does a real good job of cutting. The first pecan hardwood sapping I cut with it was 1in dia. the machete went through it with one easy cut.
The second pecan sapping I cut was appox 2in dia the first cut made it 3/4 of the way through. The back cut took it down the rest of the way with a easy cut.
Botton line after this machete has a proper edge it is a very good cutter. But for just a littl more money you can buy a machete with a edge ready to go and with a very good sheath.
