Hello Saito ! For a functionnal, backyard-cutting gladius, I'd avoid Deepeka. I've never held any Deepeka product, but I heard alot about them on the forum. I've read their blade's steel is quite soft and the fittings are rumored to be fragile, prone to break (when they are proeprly fitted...). So far, the only sub/near 125 $ gladius that I spotted KOA is the Windlass Gladiator Gladius ; www.kultofathena.com/product.asp ... ator+Sword I hope this will help you. Happy shopping !

I know Ric has the above Gladius. It was one of his earlier purchases if I recall. The threaded pommel is a real pisser on this one tho. Sure, you can always put in some leather spacers after the wood gets worn down. And then there is always the option of epoxy to keep the thing from coming loose. Again, if I recall, Ric just epoxied the whole handle and then some more on the pommel and it hasn't come loose since. Oh, and if he's looking for just a "short sword" type of blade, there is always the Windlass Qama: kultofathena.com/product.asp?item=400164I was in the process of converting mine into a traditional gladius when I accidentally turned it into a spear. The biggest issue I had with this one is that it's meant to be a thruster. But there isn't anything keeping my hand from sliding up the grip and onto the blade. I had noticed this one time when doing some thrusts and made a mental note to be more careful.

Deepeeka swords are for reenactment only...essentially just show pieces.

Yeah, but they are Indian-made...QC is questionable as is the steel type. The tangs usually aren't great either...
