New here. My hobby is history, specifically of the Templars. Just the plain ordinary history of the Order--no interplanetary stuff. I came to look for a sword, knowing it's just a concretization of my interest, not something I'll be taking on Crusade. So far, I like the Valiant Armory Signature Crusader and they say they'll customize it for me.
Has anyone here had a motto or name etched onto their sword? I'm curious if people do this. I have a few Latin phrases I'm considering and wonder what members here do...
Thanks,
Mouse

Hi, welcome to the forum. Yes, some of us do have phrases written into our blades, Brad had gotten one from CSS not long ago.

Hey man! Glad to have you with us. Something you might want to consider is actually etching a phrase in your native tongue. No body speaks latin anymore and while it might "look" cool, it kinda looses it's meaning if no one can read it. When I finally find a typology that I REALLY like, I plan on getting a "deluxe" customization on it. I've been jokingly telling my friends that I'm going to get "Cause zombies won't kill themselves." etched onto it. In actuality, it will probably be some deeper more meaningful saying. But I want it to be in english because when I pass it down to my children, I want them to understand it's meaning at a glance instead of having to bring in a translator. Think of all the Celts, Vikings, Germans, and Japanese. We look at their blades and we see phrases etched into the blades in their native tongues. You'll never find a historic example of a viking blade having kenji etched into the fuller. So, just something to take into consideration.

I don't think there's anything wrong with getting an Latin inscription; it's one of those languages that people are, 100 years from now, going to be able to stick into Google Translate and still be able to get a result back. Old Celtic or Minoan, on the other hand...
An etching on your sword shouldn't be difficult to get, especially if you do it through the Custom Sword Shoppe-- I understand Sonny Suttles is pretty good about this. Don't forget to post pictures!

As far as Latin goes, I've studied it since grade school so it reads easily for me and it's nearly 'native' to one of my Faith. The literate Templars read it and it just feels appropriate. I think it is Sonny who answered my email, but I let him know I'd answer him when I finally decided between the dozen (!) I've considered.
The sword is on backorder until later in the summer, but I will post pictures.
Thanks, Mouse

One of my sword ( the one in my avatar ) has Ego Memor ( i remember in latin ) written on it. Whatever your choice is and the reasons behind it, it really gives character to your blade, it enforces the feeling of owning a special item and generaly gives you also a meaningful reason to hold on it. I say go for it, if you though about it long enough you wont be disapointed

If your catholic or into 'magic' (renaissance period perhaps) the later being a personal interest, then latin is way more commonly used. I think 'wording' on blades is a cool idea. I have an engraver and have done a couple of knives, some with more 'comic' than serious styling LOL, I believe one of my knives has 'RAPEtech' with a smily face and 'F*** YOU* on the otherside with a kind of thistly vine *I know do I get a karma for creativity???* lol jk. Yeah I would seriousley consider getting professional engraving such as swords name or something on a blade.
