i recently purchase some choji oil on ebay from a seller by the name of bonsaimark link to oil: cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... K:MEWNX:IT for those of you who are interested. the only thing is that it doesnt smell like the stuff that came with the maintenance kit. i really loved that smell, and this smells like a mix of christmas and very light pine scent. anyone know where i can find stuff with the same scent? lol

1 liter bottle of LIGHT mineral oil at the drugstore: $9.95.
1 4 to 6 oz bottle of clove oil (for the scent you're looking for) maybe $3-4, I'm guessing.
Add a little clove oil to the mineral oil bottle, and Presto! A lifetime supply of choji oil at a fraction of the price you'd pay on eBay.
Enjoy.

hahaha nice one im really debating doing this tomorrow i just checked the coat on the sword i was testing it on and it kind of beaded a bit? which is odd. the oil does seem to be a bit thicker though. and theres no rust on the blade and it sat for 2 days with the stuff on it so it works lol

Nice thing about making your own - besides saving money - is you can have different scents if you like. Besides clove, I sometimes use jasmine, which makes for a nice background scent around the house.

Mineral oil is everywhere and anywhere...grocery stores, Walmart, Walgreens, etc. It's probably something most stores are not going to use Web space to advertise - would be like advertising toilet paper on the Web. Just take a drive to your local store and pick some up.

Ahhh...now cat pee I know something about too. :ugeek: I realize this is a sword forum but...try Icky Poo. It's on the Internet at pretty good prices - never seen it in stores. You should try to spray the area as soon as possible after the mishap. However if your cat continues to mess outside the litter box, it may be a sign of a problem and you should consult your Vet. Back to swords: you can find some nice oil essences at Walmart, Whole Foods, and generally most natural food stores. You need mix in very little - drops - into 100-200 ml of mineral oil and that will last you a long while - unless you have a very large collection to clean every month. Clove oil is just a tradition, a nice smelling one at that, but you can enjoy your favorite as well. Oh yes...silicone is excellent too, as is regular ol' machine oil. You just want to apply a very light film. I re-use the same old oily rag, and just the oil off the cloth works to keep the light film going for a couple of months. All the best...and good luck with the kitty

Well...you had it in your hand. Mineral oil is often in the pharmacy section and advertised for whatever homeopathic application you choose...including laxative. My preference is extra virgin olive oil for a laxative, mineral oil to keep my steel shiny n sharp.

hell you dont even need clove oil.....It was originally like that so the wife wouldnt use that oil for cooking. Mineral oil is perfectly fine without it being classified as Choji Oil. It was just a way to set it off to the side for non cooking use.

Mineral oil comes in both heavy and light versions.
You want the light stuff only.

I've always used the plain old Mineral oil that is advertised as an intestinal lubricant, and have never suffered any ill effects. It is somewhat viscous, but you do not need to slather it on your blade. A very light coat will suffice.
Like mentioned above, I use the same rag over and over. It is soaked with oil, and applies a very light even coat when wiped. Occasionally you will want to add a bit to it, to replenish the rags oiliness, but not as often as you might think. My oily rag seems to last for a couple months, then gets frazzled and a bit dirty. I then simply douse another and keep wiping. Stick it in a ziploc bag, and it keeps nicely.
