the kukri vs a hawk is a long going debate (simmilar to the katana vs longsword) i own both a hawk and a kukri, and while personally i prefer the kukri (makes more sense to me in british woodland) i dont think either one's better than the other its just a case of the right tool for the job, iv'e always thought of the sirupati as more of a fighting kukri than one for camp chore's it usually has a longer thinner blade, perfect for fighting, but i think something like the mk1 service kukri is ideal for woodland/bushcraft a shorter thick stout blade, ive used mine for cutting sapling's hammering, making firesticks, chopping, scraping, hacking through a frozen joint ,its my favourite camp knife i'd be happy with either a hawk or kukri, though i'd team both up with a 4"" fixed blade knife, opinion's can differ quite strongly though,as both have their hardcore fans

I think its mostly what you are more comfortable with. For me, I'll take a kukri simply because it can perform more tasks than an axe.
