Back for another machete review this time the Imacasa double edge machete
Blade length 16in
thickness 1.7mm
width 1 1/2in at base flaring to 3in
steel black coated 1075
Grip 7 1/4in poly
Overall length 23 1/4in
I picked this machete up at a military surplus store in Tulsa Ok for $13.99 plus tax. It is made in El Salvador. These baldes come with a dull edge. they say it so the owner can sharpen it the way they want it for the use the owner has for the machete. It's ok with me I like being able to put the type of edge on I like. The blade has a black anti rust coating on the blade. The blade passes a flex test returning to true everytime.
The grip is black poly moulded onto the tang. It is 7 1/4in long flaring out in the front to keep your hand off the blade and at the rear to keep the machete from flying out og your hand. To me the grip feels good, you can get a hand and a half grip on it if you want too. It has a large landyard hole at the end of the grip.
The machete came with no sheath. Seems most cheaper machetes don't come with one.
I sharpen this machete on one side useing a utility chopping edge the other side I put a fine slicing edge on.
Now on to cutting first up a heavy plastic deregent bottle, using the slicing edge the machete sailed through with no problem.
Now onto cutting a few hardwood sappings. The first sapping was 3/4in using the slicing edge to cut it. No problem cutting it a no damage to the fine edge.
The next sapping was 2 1/4in again using the slicing edge it took 2 cuts to get it down. I used the slicing edge to see if the fine edge would be damaged it wasn't in both sapping cutting
Pros 2 cutting edges you can sharpen one to a fine edge the other to utility edge
comfortfull grip
dull edge
Cons double edge you can't batton with the blade or choke up to use the point of the blade
No sheath
Bottom line If you want a double edge machete this is good one for the price.
