So I've settled on this dagger as a gift for dear old mom: www.knifecenter.com/kc_new/store_detail.html?s=BO02BO180It's the Boker Plus Schanz Integral Dagger (SID) 7" Double Edged Blade with Micarta Handles. However, reading the reviews makes it pretty clear that the sheath leaves many things to be desired. Who would you recommend to make a custom sheath for a piece like this? I would want it to be black leather and very simple and elegant in design. Dave S.

4 options just off the top of my head: Christian Fletcher Brian Kunz, "DBK Custom Scabbards" Tritonworks Custom Sword Shoppe First 3 may run you $$$; Sonny of CSS is a little cheaper. Of course, I could always give it a try for you if you're interested

There's also SlayerofDarkness here on SBG. I don't know about his scabbards (which I believe he still makes), but I've seen his belts and the few people who have them and they like them.

Brendan of Fable Blades does scabbard as well. The one he made for my blade is fantastic.

For a quality leather sheath, your best bet is to check out the sheath forum over on Bladeforums.com. www.bladeforums.com/forums/showt ... eathmakers! There's a lot of excellent craftsmen over there. IIRC, most of the suggestions you've gotten focus on scabbards as oppose to sheaths. That would be fine if you wanted a wood-core scabbard for a historical style dagger, but this is a far cry from that. For a modern leather sheath, more suited to a rather "tactical" dagger, look around BF. There are several makers who do great work. You just have to decide what KIND of sheath you want. Being a dagger, as oppose to a knife, it's not really the kind of thing your mother would be wearing around the house for utilitarian tasks, it's primary function is a weapon. So you might want to consider how, when, and where your mother would actually have the dagger on her person to decide the mounting options of the sheath. There's on maker who does formed kydex covered in leather. Sturdy, classier than plain kydex, but retains the near-limitless mounting options (as oppose to a plain leather sheath with a belt loop, which is pretty limited). EDIT: Found em! volclaedesign.blogspot.com/Don't know your budget, so you'll have to look around and send a few emails. Chances are you'll have to send the dagger TO them for the sheath to be made. EDIT: If you haven't ordered yet, BladeHQ has the same knife for significantly cheaper.

Hey, KingDonut!
Thanks SO much for your reply! Indeed, I should have specified that I wanted a sheath and NOT a scabbard, since the terms are specific to the type of weapon.
Thanks especially for the link which will save me about $30!!
You rawk!
Dave S.

Moved to the "general discussion" board, you'll get a better response here and it didn't really belong in the "sword making" board.
