Hi all, Im going to purchase a Albion Crecy soon, well once Im complying with the Victorian regulations, one being;
"-New Information on Swords- Ensuring that the weapons storage facility is ‘not readily accessible’ and/ or 'not available’ simply means that all reasonable measures have been taken to make sure that the weapon is secured in a manner which ensures that an unauthorised person is unable to remove the weapon. For example, a sword is considered ‘not readily accessible’ or 'not available’ if it is bolted to the wall, or locked in a glass cabinet, thereby preventing an unauthorised person gaining possession of the weapon."
Does anyone know of a nice lockable wall mount? I might have to make something myself :idea:
Thanks

Bloody hell I'm glad I don't live there! I'd go to prison for sure! I've got a couple of swords and handfuls knives laying about... gun parts strewn all over my work room and I even have a couple of guns sitting in vices at the moment... granted they're in pieces and couldn't be used but hey... if one were industrious enough one could piece together at least two functional guns out of it all!
Anyway I was going to do some searching for you but looks like Greg beat me to it... his google fu is faster than mine!

Hrm, yeah, not coming up with much else in the 45"+ range. What you might want to look into doing is asking around locally for a cabinet maker to make you a custom one. By the time you'd buy an off the wall one, and then pay the shipping to wherever you are, you'd probably make out better by getting one made locally.
And it's always a nice conversation piece.
"Excuse me sir, I need a lockable cabinet to display a longsword in."

Yea these laws have taken me by surprise a bit. Thanks Greg, those 2 wall mounts are just a bit short. Was really hoping to wall mount it, gives a better look, imo. Done a bit of looking on ebay and google but havent turned up what I want. I like this sort of thing www.kultofathena.com/product.asp ... ord+Hanger Something like this with some kind of locking latch, would have thought a locking wall mount would be popular.

That's what I first thought, also. No, wait! :!: *ding*
How about someone design a locking wall plaque? More material to work with than the Hanwei hanger, could be bolted to a wall stud for extra sturdiness, and some way to secure the scabbard to the whole thing (admittedly it could be limited to only some sword/scabbard styles, but...)
*runs off to the patent office*

Hopefully commenting on a thread that's a few months old isn't frowned upon too much. The reason I have to comment is, I'm making more of an effort to pursue woodworking as of late, and with my longstanding interest in all things sword related, ideas for a locking wall mounted sword cabinet have been kicking around in my head.
There are lots of great bladesmiths, sword customizing home businesses, polishers, etc. But there doesn't seem to be anyone that specializes in sword displays alone. What I would like to do is provide custom made, one of a kind sword stands and cabinets. To me, great swords are works of art, and great art deserves at least a decent "frame". The real question is, does anyone think there's enough of a market for this sort of thing? Between the commercially available Euro sword hangers, plaques, and katana displays (katanakake), I don't see anything that just thrills me. Does anyone else feel the same?

sounds like a great idea. besides most everything for hangers and displays are japanese. it would be nice to have something on the market more in the taste of european style. make some prototypes and show them off.

Good timing bringing this up again!
I too have thought of making custom cabinets for swords- great idea! May I suggest you consider a design that can be broken down for shipping, to save on cost. Something with minimal assembly required after- couple of screws/nails kind of thing. Shipping cost is the main prohibitive factor in making these a viable option for both the seller and buyer.
I just made a simple vertical wall mount with a locking latch (kinda like whay Maynar was suggesting). Not fancy at all and not encased in wood and glass, just basic stuff but easy enough to do. I neglected to take pictures of the process but I'll make another one and post step to diy this time. Total cost of my project was about $7 and it's nicer than the simple Hanwei hanger listed in this thread & doesn't mar the sword.
One possibility for a cabinet- check used furniture stores etc. for a china cabinet. They are often wide enough to fit blades horizontally, sometimes even tall enough for vertical display. Even if you have to tear out the shelves inside or modify the doors a bit, they are a good starting point for diy.
