I Just made a photobucket account to upload a picture to make as my avatar, but I still cant figure out how to get it from Photobucket to the sbg site, any idea what I'm doing wrong???

Look at the top of your browser window, you should see a clear grey bar with "Home, FAQ, SBG Links..., Jump to..., User Control Panel, etc" on it.
Click "User Control Panel". This will take you where you need to be.
Click on the "Profile" tab. You'll come to a window where you can edit your public profile. At the side there will be a menu.
Click "Edit avatar". You can upload from the computer, don't need Photobucket (although PB will be useful for posting pictures here!).

Do I have to set dimensions? If so whats the average size I should select?

The board software may automatically resize it. I personally always size my avatars to fit within 100x100 pixels, though; this is fairly common and is small enough to load quickly and not be a nuisance to people with slow connections.

thanks for your help, the original picture was 127 kib thats why it didint work, musashi would be proud!
