hey, fellas. i was browsing the intranets today and stumbled on something worth sharing. here is a link to the construction of a custom sword on knife and sword maker jay fisher's website. it includes 213 pictures detailing the fabrication process from initial grind up to the current stage of wax casting the furniture (the project's not yet complete.) here's another link to his other swords. happy browsing! jason

+1 to you Jason. That's a great find. It really shows how much effort can go into making a high quality sword. Obviously, this one is a little more elaborate then most others, but the same process happens.
I understand now that many Abions are under priced. That is alot of effort.

Aren't they stainless? It has no appeal to me. Yeah, he makes most, if not all of his stuff out of stainless steel and calls them functional! His blades are beautiful though.

His blades are beautiful though. He is OBVIOUSLY not some dirt hole overseas production company that makes stainless wallhangers, this is properly heat treated stainless, and when done properly, and no doubt done properly by a craftsman like Jay, it is completely feasible they are highly functional.

The swords are not necesarily stainless but I think in this case it is. With the right kind of stainless and the right methods to treat it properly, stainless can be better than carbon steels, the problem is that such steel and such methods require a master smith who can work the steel properly and that is the expensive part. There are too many weapons I want to own and I would be proud to own even a low grade jay fisher because even a low grade is higher than most other makers high grade blades, too bad his wait list is so long.
