You should lay in some brass wire into those handle grooves:D.

Hey Sam. Dont think for a second that that wasn't my first wish. But after playing around and a couple of experiments I gave up. Jarrah is a rock hard wood that just doesn't give to cradle the wire. It may work on a softer wood, but I didn't want to use a softer wood given the fine ends of the handle. If that hook fell off I'd spew. Theres an interesting article about it here: www.mickleyknives.com/html/page_22.htmlMatt, I did this carving with a chisel. I can get a photo of my chisels later if you like.

You should be really proud of this one Bren, I think it is your finest piece to date. You could probably also do some engraving on the blade with chisels as well, then you could do an inlay if you wanted but into the blade instead of the handle. Jarrah is far too solid to take brass wire unless you hammered it into the wood or you melted it down and carefully poured it into the design.

That things bigger than it looks in the pictures. Oh yeah mate, I don't stuff around. After playing with Bloodwraiths knife I wanted my own F* Off big knife. But this is more my style, though I do love BWs knife. Measurements are: 435mm overall, 310mm from the main cross to the tip, 290mm cutting edge Scales : Jarrah Ground from 440 x 70 x 6mm bar stock (XK9258S). Weight : 645g. (22.7oz) I like the ringing that it makes when you strike the bottles. Its so cheerful.. hehe. Yeah me too, that's why I said to crank the volume. Cool hey. Very Festive ;D. Also a sign of good steel. Photos now added with the video.

Damnit mate, now I am going have to do something equally as good. I reckon mine weights a good 2 and a half to 3 pounds, it is a real big sucker.
I can vouch for the not stuffing around, I need to finish mine before I can cut with it because the steel bites your flesh in any serious cutting. I love my knife too, though I was doing knife tricks with it this morning and that was scary due to the balance.

You did the carving with a chisel?! That must have required patience.
Superb cutter, too. Nice job.

nurow; sorry to hear about your rat getting sick. My wife will be a vet by the end of next year, so no more $1500 vet bills for us. Yay. And we've got so many animals we've been lucky it hasn't broken us with bills. They're all healthy.
But I'd love to see some more SBGers making their own products. Really interesting seeing something new, and hand made.
Matt: That carving took about 25 minutes for the whole lot. I just drew it in pencil first, then the carving took hardly any time. Its easy. I wish I could do it like Jake powning. How's your blade going Matt?

I used the second from the left for this handle. I didn't have these when I did my G2 Scot, I made one from some 1/4" bar. lol.

The mill is out of action pending a rewire from 3 phase electric, so the sword is just a bar with a fuller on it at the moment. I feel like a bit of a tit banging on about it, since I have FA to show, so far
