Second time I've used it to stain handles.
-First time was on an oak dagger handle I made and mounted on a "wall-hanger" sword's tip.
19 years ago, liquid black shoe polish with the foam applicator.
It still looks the same, but it hasn't been used at all. So IDK.(?)
-This time I used Brownish "ox-blood" regular polish. It was old and dried so I hit it with a butane torch, then quickly dipped
the denim rag in it and rubbed it on the (oak?) handle. At one point it lit (flame) in the can but I blew it out.
Well thanks in advance for any feedback on whether it should hold up or not. (It looks nice and seems durable,But???)
By the way:
I "finished" up customizing a Winchester Bowie knife from Walmart (I know, but $20 bucks, couldn't pass it up)
A few weeks ago. Gonna see my brother tommorrow (I hope) so I can give it to him then.
Using an angle grinder (carefully) I sharpened the back of the clip a bit,
Made the Choil much more round, radius.
Then using my "Dragster" Black&Decker brand belt sander (It has a very narrow wheel on the front) I sanded the handle a lot,(The rounded end more square) and cut the finger grooves much deeper into the sides.
Polished the blade some too...(Had to re-stain the handle).
Sort of lost interest in spending more time on it. It's still a pretty decent cheap knife, and MUCH better balance now.
Just got bored of working on it. And I was coughing/ sick from no dust mask by then. (BIG mistake).
I Don't feel like making a leather sheath, or other stuff that I had planned for this one.
...For the effort I'd prefer a better blade, or self made one is all I guess.
