Most of you who have browsed the classifieds have noted that JP has been selling a number of swords recently. Out of these, he offered a Windlass Scimitar, and I decided to pounce upon that as I had gotten together enough money to facilitate the purchase.
Another member had offered him $170 for the scimitar and a buckler together. I PM'd JP in regard to the scimitar alone. After a little discussion, JP noted that shipping would be around $30 for him, so he offered 170 total (including shipping). This means the scimitar cost me approximately $140 USD. This is, in my opinion, a decent price for a used Windlass sword in good condition, especially one already sharpened like this sword is.
It took him a while to ship it out; apparently he was trying to come by the right box for it. Fair enough and I won't begrudge him that. Personally I'd just have flat-packed it like Tried & True does with their Atrims, which would be a matter of going down to Home Depot, picking up a box for $2, cutting it to size and taping it together around the sword; however, it appears that he waited for what looks to be a shipping box from Hanwei (I think?) before using that for the scimitar. It had foam bits inside to hold the sword in place, which is a nice touch and more than I was expecting.
Unfortunately when it arrived I was a bit worried as I could see where the quillions were sticking out of the box. Probably par for the course as it shipped USPS, though; I understand they aren't the gentlest shippers.
When I unpacked it, I saw that there was a crack in the grip, like JP had mentioned in the selling thread. Regrettably, during shipping, it had worsened from the banging around. A little glue and it was fixed, though; I plan on replacing it anyway, so not a big deal.
I am satisfied with this purchase. The only gripe I have is the time it took between paying for it and receiving it, and hopefully JP can improve on that in any possible future business we have with each other.
If grading this as a transaction on a scale of 1 to 10, I would probably put it as an 8.5 to 9. I would be glad to do business with JP again in the future.
