Yea i don't really like wide XL blade. I would like to hold one in my hands though and see how it feels. But i tend to prefer normal width, 30-32mm. I bough the Bamboo MAT already The first website i posted on here didn't want to sell it to me for 379$, they said it was an error on their website and that the real price is 479$. BUT, i also found this website who also have it for 379$ www.bytheswordinc.com/p-9312-bam ... h2438.aspx Then, i asked a ''well known website'' (not sure if i should name it lol, but i guess you all know what site it is) if they could match the price of 379$. They agreed Deal is done now and blade is paid. waiting for shipping. If i don't like it i guess i could easily sell it for the same price, 379$. But i think i'll love it.

The Practical Plus XL Light has an even wider blade than the Elite... Have you found it to be an issue for you?

Sam H, At the time, I had purchased the PPXLL because I really wanted a Hanwei kat with bo-hi with cotton ito & real samegawa that wasn't too pricey and it was the closest thing that fit the bill. In the flesh, the extra wide blade just felt... well, too wide for my taste, purely aesthetically speaking. Now that I have the Hanwei 47 Ronin kat, which looks and feels more like what I had in mind, the PPXKL has its place in my collection as a "specialized" specimen. I've yet to really cut with it but look forward to seeing how well it performs. I've owned a Practical Pro Elite and though its blade was slightly narrower, it still looked ever so slightly too wide for my conservative tastes. Grindhouse, I'm sure you'll be happy with your Bamboo Mat. The consensus is that it's a superbly put together sword. Hopefully you won't have issue with its somewhat bulky tsuka.

Lobster,
Yeah I agree that the PPXLL sports a very wide blade. Its typical of the XL series but then they're designed specifically for cutting mats. These swords cut through mats like a lightsaber if you do everything right on your end. While they don't look traditional they do what they were meant to do VERY well.
Personally I'm not a fan of the "performance" geometry either but I can appreciate what they were designed to do. I have never owned one but have had the chance to cut with one and I'll say that if you DO cut with it and your form and technique are good you'll be amazed at how well these swords cut. Silent cuts on mats are much less difficult to obtain with these swords than with traditional swords.
Grindhouse - enjoy your Bamboo Mat katana when it gets to you. For the money you found it for its a fantastic price and you really can't go wrong with it.
