I would like to clean the samegawa on my Ronin before I re-wrap it. When I took off the ito, the rayskin was yellowed in many places and looks to have dirt in it. Any suggestions?

soak it in water and use a soft bristled brush as tom suggested. the yellowing might not come out...is basicly antiqueing from either sweat in your hands or just nature itself.

You might try lacquering it if the cleaning process doesn't work out.

I'd ask for more expert advice before using a harsh cleanser like bleach. Like Saito said, the yellowing is partly just natural aging-- it's very frequent with white organic materials (ivory, for example), so to some degree there's not a whole lot you can do. If it's just dirty, though, a toothbrush and something along the lines of Ajax (powdered cleaner, like you'd use to scrub a bathtub) should do the trick, just be sure and rinse it thoroughly afterward to get the cleaner out from between the nooks and crannies of the samegawa.
