Has anyone ever Replaced a Denix gladius with a steel blade? I was. Thinking about purchasing it for the scabbard and fittings. Then use the metal blade as a blank model for a new water jet cut steel blade blank and grind it down to an edge.
Any thoughts?

I am not familiar with Denix-are you sure you can remove the fittings 1st and are they worth the effort??If you feel that they are of a good quality and feel that you can do this-why not!Go for it!!

In short -- Don't even try. The hilt fittings are the same material as the blades -- die-cast zinc -- and the scabbards are cheaply made of cardboard and vinyl with more cast zinc fittings. In other words, to make a decent sword out of a Denix gladius, get rid of the blade, the scabbard, and all the fittings. Then start over with decent materials.
