Was shocked to see a package wrapped in layers of cardboard and clear plastic packing tape, rather than the long box swords usually come in. I immediately thought, "This thing`s gonna be BENT." This wasn`t the case, however. There were four layers of cardboard wrapped around abundant bubble wrap, within which was the AN XI wrapped quite tightly in smooth, clear lastic. Scabbard was not greased; blade was, liberally slathered in what looked like white petroleum jelly. I removed the plastic wrap from the hilt and noticed oxidation on the pommel and backstrap. No varnish used here that I can tell. I like this. The grip is a bit small, even with bare hands, but manageable. I use white or black deerskin "roper" style gloves. With these the grip is a bit snug, but not completely unmanageable. Some more length would be appreciated, Weaponedge. The blade is hollow ground and surprisingly light, manageable and "fencible" Sword handles surprisingly well. It "feels nice" in the hand. I have no web cam yet; sorry. Perhaps I`ll post some measurements of this later today.

weaponedge.com/images/swords/16.jpgRight church, wrong pew The WE is the enlisted light cav saber of the middle/later 1st Empire. I've tried two of my French sources trying to determine the correct grip range for this saber, without much help. There were quite a few variants, but 4.5 in to 5.25 in appears to be correct for range. And yes, my experience with WE swords are that they routinely downsize the hilts to some degree, for Indian hands. Also period blades did not have ricassos. Still for the price and as a cutting toy they are worth it. ( The Cold Steel 1830 may be the better weapon, but it is pricier.) enjoy
