I manned up and cut the offending ito off of my Ronin Dojo. I have been watching videos on wrapping on Youtube, but cannot seem to get the hang of it. If there is any advice to be had, I'd love to hear it.

Sir, I'd just like to offer a big damn "HELL YEAH!"
THAT is how ya learn this stuff.
Are you using the little paper triangles? I know some people swear by them, but when I did my first ito wrap, I basically just pulled, twisted, and brought it flush to the other side. Granted, I had about 10 false starts, so you might still be in the false start phase.
Also, I found that using a clamp really helped. I'm not sure which videos you've been watching, but I know at least 2 guys use one of the cheap spring clamps from your local hardware store.
Also, which parts are you not getting the hang of? Do your diamonds not line up with the peg-holes? Are your diamonds uneven? (You can tell I know my way around a katana by all the fancy terminology I use)

All of the above, my man. The ito I got is wider than the old one, so I cannot avoid covering the top peg hole. The diamonds are uneven and I cannot seem to get a grasp on twisting them to look right. I did buy a spring clamp, the kind that releases with a trigger, but it wont stay on. I watched Hyoujinsamas video, as well as the one with the lady from Ryan Swords getting the whole thing done in under six minutes and one done by Icyberia. I got the sageo knot to where it's not perfect, but it works. Oh, and thanks for the kind words and encouragement, they "made me smile, even when I felt like crying."

Yeah, he's pretty awesome. I'm very lame at doing searches, so I doubt I would have found these. So again, thanks.

bleachsword, I love to see such a helpful attitude, especially when so many other forums would brow beat such a poster for being too noobish. Taking the time to find and pst the information may well be the difference in someones willingness to finih a project or start another. Have a karma for representing EXACTLY what this forum is all about.

KaOsBlaKbLaDe; you hit the nail on the head-100%. I am a member of other sword and blade forums, but this is now the only one I check. The attitude on some of the others towards "noobs," as well as those of us that prowl the "lower end market" of swords is astonishingly negative and unhelpful. I spend a great deal of time here and am often steered back on course, as with the above posts. If I drank, I'd come see all of you, drape a sloppy and unwanted arm over your shoulders, and with a blast of atrociously bad breath slur "I love you guys! I really do!" into your face. But since I don't drink, a more reserved, but still as heartfelt, "thank you."

This is completely going in the other direction, but I have used a cord wrap with leather on a couple of mine. Sort of a cross between a euro and Japanese type. Actually looks fine. Only did this on the lower end ones.
