A chance visit from an old old friend yeilded... An anvil!
It's not that big, but perfectly good for tool or knife making (I reckon). He hasnt delivered it yet, so I don't know about whether it has a Hardy hole or not. I bought a great curved hardy-tool which would be great for scrolling. I am dying to try it out.
It is rust free, and hasnt got a single ding in its face. Best of all, it was bought for the princely sum of ONLY TWENTY QUID! Thats about 35 dollars. 35 Dollars for an anvil? What a deal!
Now I need a forge. I have plenty of space, but no space for a chimney. My dad reckons he has seen farriers forges that are portable, for about 175 quid. I figure if this is true, it must be large enough to make small tools and knives in (if it is big enough to deal with horse-shoes).
What I really need is professional advice (*cough*Sam/Dan*cough*). ;D
Shall post a pic of my nice anvil when I get hold of it.

I like the look of SFP238 (the portable square one). How much do you reckon one like that would cost? They don't have prices listed.
How do they keep those ones cool? Do you have to line them yourself?

I would go with SPBB, a better bet with no need to line with refractory brick and/or sand.

Excellent!
Wish they'd display they're prices. I'll email them, I think.

Havnt yet. Our Anvil turned up!
Its really nice. It has a bick, hardy hole and pritchel hole. I wasnt expecting it to have all of these. Its in pretty nice condition. A spot of powdery surface rust, and a few chips off the edges, but the face is flat (no half moon dents). Do you reckon its worth removing the rust?
I'll post a pic when I get hold of the missus' camera.
