This is a discontinued machete from Cold Steel but you can still get them
Blade length 18in
thickness 3mm
width 2 1/4in tapering to 2in
steel 1050
Grip Poly
length 5 1/2in
Overall length 23 1/2in
I got this machete a couple of years ago from The Bladeshop.com (see I don't work for Smokey Mountian or Marbles) I got it to just have another style machete to my collection. I ever notice until I started doing this review the blade tapers. At the base of the blade it's 2 1/4in tapers to 2in right before the curves down into the point into what we call around here a sheep foot point. The machete is made in China out of 1050 steel. Guess Cold steel really likes 1050 steel, they have alot of stuff made out of it. I would prefer at least 1070 myself. It comes with a fairly sharp utility edge.
The grip is polyproylene the checking isn't as sharp as the kukri machete. It doesn't wear blister on my hand any where. It has a landyard hole at the end of the grip, which needs to be biggers wasn't easy getting the paracord through it .
The machete with a fairly heavy nylon sheath, I lot better one than comes with the kukri machete. This one is stiff making resheathing easier to do.
It may just be my hand and the grip on these machetes, but they want to twist in my hand half through a target. They will go half then turn sharply down.
The first sapping was a pecan 3/4in dia made it through in one cut no twisting
The second pecan sapping was 2 1/2in was able to cut it in two strikes but the blade twisted downward on me
Tried to split a 4in dia 18in log with it as you can see I didn't made it. This was a green willow tree log if it had of been dry I might have been able to do it.
For you bottle cutters I added this cut on a 56oz heavy plastic deregent bottle. This cut was did after I did the wood cutting no touch sharpening was did before the cut.
Bottom line for me this machete didn't work out as a heavy cutter it might just be the grip to my hand alinement . It will still do the job machetes are designed for. Cutting 2in or better hardwood sapping are not what machetes are for.
