First post here, so just wanna intoduce myself and say hi to all. My name is Alex. Some of you might know me from the youtube account of the same handle, and some tongue-in-cheek videos from what seems like an age ago. I really, REALLY want to make some more vids but am separated from both the majority of my collection, and a working video capture device (next affordable option is gonna get pwned). Im a sword fanatic as you have probably guessed, Japanese swords and fittings especially, of which I am an amature but enamored collector...however I am very keen to expand my understanding of euro longswords and own a few good examples when I have the means. Other hobbies include: fishing (wishing tight lines to all fisher folk) skiing, shooting, motorbikes, history - and the dreaded............. !political analasis! (which will never, ever, be spoke of hereafter). Im extremely happy to now be a member of the friendliest sword forum (snobforum, eat your heart out!) j/k The combination of my laziness and antispam measures held up the registration process, but im now looking forward to being able to actually partake in some of the enlightening and entertaining posts. Peace

Yo Chris, I like pike. Bass. Barracuda, Bonefish, Billfish, Bonito, Bluefin and Bream. Would like to try for a barramundi. Seriously though, the former four mainly...with a lot of jack, snapper and the like. Fished inland usa and uk as well as offshore atlantic, florida/bahama flats, down through belize for tarpon and permit. I wonder when my next trip like that will be. As far as the collection goes, its not huge. On the old tube vid you will see some pieces..the main ones being my trusty sidearm - a now slightly weathered custom bugei samurai and tanto attributed to a shinshinto smith, since repaired, now looking pristine Since then its grown to include a number of fittings, mainly ironwork, a fairly early koto blade, probably nambok.. and another tanto from some time in the late edo period which I cant take my eyes off. Just made my first sword purchase in over a year today...which I will keep a secret untill I post a full review. To see if anyone can guess the maker ill narrow it down... its a T10 blade made in the country I currently reside, and costs under $175.

well, those are SBG's coolest cuts, not UBC's coolest cuts. now that you are a card carrying member here all you gotta do is send me a link to the cool cuts you would like to have posted.
The coolest cuts archive has been pretty inactive lately, I'd love to have new material to add. the sad fact is I haven't had a lot of time to comb through our videos personally and no one has submitted anything recently.
any way it is good to see that you made it over to this neck of the woods. I love my UBC brothers and sisters but the great UBC is pretty much dead these days. I know we've got a new forum up but nothing seems to be happening there and there's very few people who attend there regularly that don't come here too. I keep looking in on the UBC board from time to time but it looks pretty lonely there to me.

Of course, I was kidding good sir, besides, I wont be submitting untill I have something better to offer I thought as much about UBC - but this is sad. Long live UBC. I am still loyal to what remains of the group I think what the J man did was really special, and he was one of the first, if not the first to have the (backyard cutting focus) idea and make a group of it. I would go so far as to say that much of the "new" community around backyard cutting and production sword sprung from UBC and its members. I put its "death" or demise down to youtube changing it group settings, along with the J man taking leave and well...some other things that I dont really need to go into here in too much detail...lets just say there were people vying for status in the vacuum that the J man left, and none of them had the charisma or heart to fill the role adequetly. I still have the T-shirt and wear it proudly.. In my eyes, UBC still 'makes the cut'.

By the way, annoyingly these days, I cant get on youtube. Cant post videos there and cant make comments, which bugs me when other people post comments and I cant reply. Im gagged. So....anyone reading this, please feel free to either join in the mud slinging or defend my honour, I cant do it musellf! XD

I had similar problems. I couldn't make comments or reply to private messages. Very, very annoying. These days, I only watch clips on youtube and don't do anything else with that site, I have stopped trying to reply to people who comment my few videos (most of these comments are low-level trollish personnal attacks anyway).

Cheers to that Séb! Its because I live in China and the government have long since banned youtube, facebook, twitter and pretty much any cool site that may inspire 'the people' to do naughty things... like revolt
