Back with what is becoming one of my favorite machete brands Marble. This time up is thier Scouting machete.
Blade length 14in.
steel 1070
thickness 2mm
width at base 1 3/4in flaring to 2 1/4in
Grip length 6 3/4in hardwood
Overall length 20 3/4in
This another machete I got in my order from Smokey Mountain Knike Works. Out of the box is is a light machete that feels good in the hand. The edge is sharp and smooth ready to go to work. The blade has a bright orange coating One side of the blade has 3 fuller filled in with a black coating. Like all Marbles machete through SMKW.com it comes with a real nice nylon sheath. The sheath has 2 nylon utility pockets the bottom one has a 2X4inch medium course sharpening stone the top one is empty. The sheath does cover more of the handle than I would like only 2inches of the grip sticks out to draw with. Guess it isn't a real big problem. I don't plan on doing any quick draws with it. The grip is hardwood held on by 2 heavy brass rivets with a large brass landyard hole in the end. It is made in El Salvador it seems they know how to made a good machete.
The machete is very quick in the hand and well balanced it doesn't tire you out using it. It would make a very good backpacking or survival machete.
Cutting, think I was having a off day when I tested this nachete. My shoulders were a little sore from cutting and stacking firewood.
The First target was a 1 1/4in hardwood sapping. The machete cut through it as well has a large machete would using not much force.
Now for my off day cuts, the second hardwood sapping was appox 2 1/2in my first forehand cut made it half way through. But on my backhand cut I misses my target area several times. If I hadn't of been off it would have made it through in 2 cuts.
Pros Good and sharp really to go
Great great nylon sheath
Low price you get machete, sheath, and sharpening stone for $14.95 plus shipping
Cons Like most Marbles machetes it sets to low in the sheath.
Bottom If you need a good short lightweigth machete you can't go wrong with this one.
