I don't think that Carbon Wolf is looking for long term storage. He just wants to cut water bottles with his swords and not get rust on them.
Which by the way Carbon, what blade are you using to cut water bottles with that has the black finish?
But yes, the next time you are at the store, go to the health section and you should see a bottle of mineral oil. Some people use it as a laxative, some people use it to oil swords, it works well in both cases.
Or, go to the harware section and ask/look for 3-in-1 oil.
Or go to the Gun section and ask for RemOil.
All of these products are practically the same thing when it comes to keeping rust off your blade.
But I'd highly recommend looking into the Militec-1 option.

I just noticed this thread and I'm going to second Greg's suggestion (or first?) about Militec-1.
Btw Greg did you get the samples or did you order the tube? Or both? If so what are your thoughts?

Well in that case perhaps an automotive wax ?( ) or the Miltec stuff mentioned. Silicone spray has an "aversion" to water, it actually chases moisture out of tiny crevices, etc. As for "Mineral Oil", IIRC, it's also known as "Baby Oil"... well just "lurking" a bit for now...not much time for more ATM
