This machete is made in El Salvdor, it has a bright orange blade coating. The blade has 3 fullers on one side filled in with a black coating. Handling I'm not sure what to say about this, I'm not use to this blade design it feels ok to me. The edge is smooth and fairly sharp not razor sharp no grind marks in the blade. The grip is a little rough could use more sanding. the handle it held on by 3 brass rivets, There is a large brass landyard hole at the end. This is a 3/4 tang, the tag stops where the grip turns down. The landyard hole does not go throught the tang like on other Marbles machetes. The grip is paint orange at the end.
The Blade
Lenght 9in 1070 steel
Thickness 1.1mm
Width 4 1/8in at widest place
Handle Hardwood
Sheath: Heavy nylon with 2 utility pockets, the bottom pocket has a 2X4in medium course sharpening stone. This sheath doesn't cover the grip like other marbles sheaths. You can get a full grip on the draw.
This machete is consider a crane/stalk cutting machete, I'm not really sure what is primary purpose is. Maybe cutting ears of corn off of stalks. If some knowns the main puspose of this machete let me know. It looks to me it would be a better slicing blade to use on a cutting broad in a rocking motion. Or chopping through something on a cutting block.
I only did some light cutting with it, it doesn't have the blade isn't heavy enough to cut through heavy hard limbs. Maybe it would be good for cutting vines in tight areas.
the hardwood sapping I cut with it was appox 3/4 made it most of the way through before the sapping broke. The blade sings to you has it cuts making a nice ringing noise.
I didn't do alot of cutting with this machete I didn't enjoy using it, I'm use to powering through limbs this one just wouldn't do it
Pros Good smooth sharp edge. When you get it through SMKW.com it comes with a nice sheath and stone
Cons Not a good general purpose machete, may be good for the purpose it was design for
Bottom Line If you like strange designs or have a purpose this design can meet it might be OK. There are better general purpose machetes.
