You refer to this? www.browning.com/products/catalo ... ype_id=580 Looks fine to me. Kind of chef's-knife-ish in the general outline of it, which isn't my thing, but if you dig, go for it. It's probably adequate enough as a knife, though as it seems to be designed along the lines of a cutting-competition knife I wouldn't try to do anything heavier than that, ie, don't try to use it as a machete.

I would like to know how to post links. There are some videos of this knive in the act, as a cutter and machete. My question was does anyone own this knife and do they recommend it? Thank you Aran and that is the one I refer to, it do look a little chef-ish.

I have one but have not used it other than test cuts (shipping box) when I first got it. I have several in this size and just have not got around to it yet. The balance is right at the cutting edge, the grind lines on mine are even and straight (no waves). The Finnish is a little coarser than what I would call satin (600-800 grit finish). I would guess about a 400-500 grit (?). It is smooth and even and fine for a working finish. The grip is good but a little square for me, (my only real dislike about this knife) I will end up rounding the edges more if I ever get around to using it. It came sharp, cut paper but was a rougher cut than I thought I could stand. I convexed the edge and it polished in to a scalpel sharp 9 inch razor. The sheath is brown leather with a frog hanger. The fit is snug but not tight. Appears well made. You can wair it on a belt or tucked in to a belt with the stud as a stop. There is no retainer but for most uses you probably wont need one. I see no reason the blade would not handle any thing you would do with a flat ground 1/4 inch blade. There are many post in the Wilderness section on blade form. www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=692 Several of the folks there that like that size knife consider it there "go to". I also noticed there are several WTB (were to buy) post and they don't seem to stay in the for sale threads long when they get posted there. At + $140 I am happy with what I got. I would like to test it further before I took it in the woods but really don't expect it to fail. It would work well in the kitchen and can see it paired with a tomahawk as a long knife. Hope that helps.

He he, At 120usd on ebay the worse that could happen is the Edison effect or finding the perfect under 200 usd big knife on the first try. When I get the CB I'll do a comparison to the CS trail master which was around 200usd when I purchased it awhile back. Thanks again for the push. I am really curious as to what Tops Sebastien is buying as they are on my wish list in a couple of departments

Tops Fire Jumper ... Can't find a knife with that name, do you mean the Tops Smoke Jumper ? www.topsknives.com/product_info. ... cts_id=130 BTW am I the only who find TOPS ALL CAPITAL LETTERS PRODUCT DESCRIPTIONS VERY ANNOYING, ALL THEY SAY ABOUT THEIR KNIVES IS IN CAPS JUST LIKE THIS SENTENCE, ARE YOU ANNOYED ?!?! I SURE AM !!! Lol, couldn't resist poking fun at that. Seriously, if you check out the product descriptions on Tops website, you will notice all their products are described in caps, in a macho way that would make Lynn C. Thompson proud. Knife sellers don't even bother using these descriptions when they sell Tops knives

Yes that is one of the larger knives on my list. USPS DIDNOT HEAR MY CALL FOR oh am I doing it also. Anyway there is also tomorrow. I went to Bass pro with gift cards, from Julies niece, one for last b'day and christmas. Picked up some shoes, a CRKT kiss, a CRKT m16 01z, Gerber parang. The kiss is much bigger then my SS1, by Schrade, both are single bevel, ground on one side, knives I also have a Gerber that is way similiar but double beveled. I like small knives, medium and large up to xxxl. That CRKT m16 is fast opener slow closer at first I thought d@#n child proof stuff but that would have keep it closed. It is a nice smooth opening razor sharp edc. I thought the slim line would be a problem for my big hands the only problem I am having is speedy one hand closing. It is about padric proof. I played with the parang a little it works fine. Too short puts your hand in amongst the work, so gloves might be necessary for some. Any way that is what I told Julie. This will probably wind up as a permanet part of my camping gear. Hopefully by Monday this time I'll be posting about the CB
