Hello all, I measured an original 1860 Lt Cav Saber and also a repro I have. That original was the most well balanced and great feeling sabre I have ever held, and I have held several originals and many repros over the year. Anyway, I am tryint to figure out how I can grind my repro's blade down to the same measurements as the original (see my comparison thread of the two on the sword reviews forum). For example both sabres are 1" wide at middle of the blade. The original is right at 7/8" about 6 1/2" from point and 3/4" at three inches from point. The repro is still one inch at the 6 1/2" from point spot and 15/16" at three inches from point.
So I am wondering how I can grind down the repro blade to the same measurements. I realize I will be grinding a good bit off those last few inches, sort of gradually from the 1" mid point as I go to the point to keep the measurements correct. So therefore I will have to grind some distally as I get towards the point in order to make it thin enough to put the edge back on it. Am I making any sense? I might try that. I will have to take my time and be patient to keep from over heating my blade or digging in too much here and there.
Any ideas? Thanks ahead of time, FB

you could maybe grind off of the spine, which would be easier than girnding the edge then COMPLETELY redefining the edge geometry.
