This is another machete I got in my order from Smoke Mountian Knike Works, SMKW.com. The price was $9.91 no sheath included. It is made in South African out of 1050 steel. Out of the box it had the worst edge I've ever saw on a machete, it had a wire edge you could break off. Didn't take any pictures of the edge just got out my files and put a proper edge on it. Took me about 30 minutes with a file and diamond hone. The place this machete is made needs to realine thier sharpening machince. The blade has a black coating on the blade. The grip on this machete is a liitle large. What really bugged me about the grip there was a ridge at the seam. Used a pocket knife and sandpaper to get rid of it.
The blade Length 16in
Thickness 2mm
Wdith 2in base flaring to 4in
The handle 5 3/4in injected poly
Over all length 21 #/4in
Dry handling even with the large grip it felt ok. Could use reshaping of the handle for me.
Being a Panga style machete I thought this machete would cut as well as the Marbles Swamp Master panga style machete it didn't.
The first target was a 1in dia hardwood sapping. It cut through ok, just didn't feel right for some reason.
The second hardwood sapping was a 2 1/4in dia It could 2 cuts to get through it. Also the second cut I put alot more force in it to down the tree.
Pros None the Marbles Swamp Master it way better.
Cons Real bad edge
Grip to fat
No sheath
Bottom Line: The Marbles Swamp Master it a better machete in Panga style machetes. It is 1070 steel compared to the Cold Steel 1050. The edge on the swamp master is ready to go out of the box. You also get a good heavy nylon sheath and sharpening stone for only $5.61 more.
