When I was in Home Depot a few weeks ago I saw this machete I was real attracked to it by it grip. It feels real good in the hand. It was only $14.95 so I got it.
The Blade Length 22in
Thickness 2mm
Width at base 1 1/2in flaring to 2 1/4 at tip
Steel 1070
Finish Semi glossly black very smooth.
Grip length 5 3/8in
Overall length 27 3/8in
This is a brush style blade made in China but most things in the USA are now a days. It was anything but super sharp. The blade did have a rough utility egde on it. Took my files to put a better edge on it. The temper on the blade did seen to have soft spots on it while I was sharpening the edge.
Like I said the grip feels real good in the handle it is a semi soft rubber trimmed in orange making it easier to find if you lay in down in heavy brush. It is has a oval cross section shape, the front half flares out making a guard to keep your handle off the blade. The rear of the grip also flares out to keep th machete secure in the hand on swings. The grip is held on by 2 rivets has a small landyard hole in the back, wish had made the landyard hole larger.
I found out one thing while using it, make sure you are using a handler grip. If you use a sabre grip the flare on the rear digges into the plam of your hand.
Now on to cutting the first target was a 1 3/4in hardwood sapping. It was cut in one stoke this is very good for a brush style machete.
The second sapping also hardwood was 2 1/4 in. It took too heavy strikes to cut it. After the little cutting I did with it there was no damage to the blade
Pro Real nice grip as long as you us a hammer grip
Cons Not sharp enough
No sheath
Bottom line I would buy it again I will get a Marbles sheath for it. The one for the Marbles Workhorse machete fits it well.
