I came for the reviews and stayed to lurk the Knowledge. Thanks for both. As someone with no sword sense the form has been a big help.
I have been working with the bowie/tomahawk combo for a wile now. Nothing formal just play. Most of the Traditional systems are adapted from the sword and saber passed down for hundreds of years and the similarities peeked my interest. Seems like a natural progression to the sword.
So what Sword? Problem is the more you learn the less you know. (My Dad would say "Now that you told me what you think you know impress me by telling me what you don't know.)
Researching the 1796 lead to the reviews here, that led to lurking, that led to re thinking several styles, that led to a wish list way beyond my price point. So now I have to figure out what style will fit me. Hand, hand and a half, two hand. Slicer, stabber, long, short.........
I decided to take advantage of the Tinnker Sale at Stromlo Swords and ordered a EMS and a GSOW. Figured these are good entry level, east to customize and I can get a feel for 1 and 2 hand swings and styles. I still plan on the 1796 for a saber but that will have to Waite till after the bills this month.
Seems like a good place to start with my limited knowledge. Get a chance to feel them out and figure what I do and don't like in a sword.
That's were I'm at right now. Thanks again all for the insight in to the world of swords.
