Hello all, just joined this forum because it's the best around.
A little (no, a lot  ) about me (In relation to life/swords):
I'm in my thirties, Been tinkering with tools since I could walk.
As a child, I grew up in the suburbs, then moved out to the country, then lived in a small town where I was the man of the house at 11 or 12. At that time I became obsessed with "Man-sized" weaponry really.(now it's more a non-violent compulsion) Always was into some sort of projectilery, along with steel and cutlery. Lived near a library then and read every piece of literature on firearms/related...
Moved to the city, big change. I mostly tinkered with tools, built crappy mild steel swords, gadgets in my backyard or hiked in the woods shooting my airguns (although it was the city haha).
I was quiet and kept to myself but got jumped pretty bad a few times...finally a Thai/Laotian kid I kept bugging to teach me whatever kung-fu/kick-boxing moves decided he'd better train with me before I got killed.
Turned out his uncle had been a Mauy Thai kick-boxing champion who'd brought him to USA and trained him.
It was a good time to train being about 14 and all. (I still from time to time strike solid objects with an elbow or knee when I get bored in the shop, or just to make sure I still can...people think it's psycho)
Wanted to become a police to help people ,even rode along in their cars etc. on occasion...however by about 15 y.o.
I decided it totally was not for me.
Wanted to be an industrial arts teacher after H.S., but figured it doesn't pay very well anyway.
Looked into jeweler apprenticeship but 6 years at minimum wage was unappealing. Was very interested in Blacksmithing,
But worried about the future in it (I was young /stupid).
Became a machinist apprentice instead for one year...shop lost a stinger missile contract (I was not involved in) Got layed off...Worked hundreds of different jobs, construction etc.
Short term in the US Army as an Infantry paratrooper.
Got home a little wild/crazy I guess...went through an early mid-life crisis and do a bunch of hobbies I always wanted to.
Even started listening to the Heavy-metal stuff again. Love my Harley-Davidson too (paid off).
Got a wife, and daughter (cutest toddler in the world).
I was doing all the pre-welding machining on steel in a factory,
loved the steel work, got married and they shut down the factory completely unexpectedly THE NEXT day!!!
Been a tough 2 years now. I Have a sword which is a long story in itself but: I had a piece of mild steel I wanted to make into a template for later "real" version...was deep-daydreaming on the perfect shape, while riding a train.
Fell asleep, drempt of a doodle shape I've always drawn, woke still thinking of a sword shape, the two combined and BANG!!! Might seem "nuts" but I consider it a divine shape, truelly. Best of all it looks a bit European mideval inspired (my favorite) well that was in 2004, and I saw documentary "secrets of the samurai sword" NOVA and got the fever to finish it about 2 years ago...soon my highest dream project will come to light!!! also I have a few versions, more planned and this one design, (I could spend a life+ on this one single style sword of mine) I'll unveil and welcome (be thrilled about) others to create versions if they wish soon hopefully.
Well srry for the length of all this ...I could go on, seemed like an OK spot for a long intro is all. Thanks!
Hopefully I'll meet some folks from here in the real world too sometime! Awesome forum!
