I want to get my first Katana soon, and need help deciding. I've been looking at the Musashi 1060 series and have heard nothing but good about them. They are also extremely inexpensive. What do you guys think?

A very well informed lady on this forum steered me toward a Dynasty Forge for my first Katana. It was excellent advice.

But what of Dynasty Forge's (DF) prices? What is their lowest priced blade and how does it compare to the lowset priced Musashi? (I'm at work and can't do the comparisons myself now )

You can't get a low-end DF anywhere near as cheap as you can get a low-end Musashi, but since this is a sub-$300 forum, my thoughts still stand. You can get a DF B Class for $210 and a Musha for $225.

I would opt for the DF musha unless you wanted just a plain beater for back yard cutting. the musha is good for a beater but nice enough to display. another thing to consider is if you want a real Hamon or not.

You could do worse for a first katana; Musashi has upped their game in the past few years. Here is a link to the reviews on the old site: sbgswordforum.proboards.com/inde ... read=10166 . . . and definitely check out the reviews on this board. --Edward

Im gonna have to suggest the Musha, they are amazing with really nice crisp lines and from what ive heard the steel is strong as &^%$ and tempered very well

my first sword was the "musashi hand honed katana" its like 60 bucks now, was 80 back in the day. they are a beater, you wouldnt be afraid to hit a tree wwith one and i have done so. that being said. they are ugly and purely utilitarian, and arent what id call "razor sharp" some of them will cut paper, others wont. and the fake rayskin and cheap cotton screams CUSTOMIZE ME. that being said. i made some huge mistakes and mess ups on cuts that woulda probally messed up a differential hardened blade, like hitting an iron nail in my cutting stand. having my brother sneak it out when im gone and chop trees down, and a cinder block. it sustained damage from the nail and cinder block. but for the poultry 80$. who cares? i just took it to a grinder and grinded it down. hell of a starter sword if you want a true beater that you can not care about minor damage. all my nicer swords i cant stand to see a scratch on them. the musashi i punish.
