Okay so I've narrowed it down to these two for my next arming sword. The H/T's are so darn cheap this month but I know Darksword is praised for its durable swords. Opinions please.

If you like a light and fast sword get the norman. If you like a destroyer wich cut havier target choise the DSA medieval knight.

The H/T hands down will perform better in virtually any sword-related endeavor. It will handle better, cut better, is more historically accurate, and costs far less on top of it. It's just designed better than the DSA, hands down. Not knocking Eyal's swords, but Tinker has a better understanding of what makes a sword tick.

for less than the price of the darksword you could buy the H/T norman AND H/T viking or single hand, or for a few $$$ more than the DS knight you could get all three H/T's

I'll jump on the Tinker bandwagon too. Those things are made to be used, pure and simple. IMO the Norman isn't the best of the Tinker line, but honestly that speaks more to the H/T line as a whole than that particular item.
Like Aaron said that's not meant to be a swipe at DSA, just that H/T are like $600 performance swords without all the bells and whistles.

Go to Kult of Athena and compare DSA and H/T thickness dimensions. The Tinkers have major distal taper, the DSA's little to none. Tinker is the master of distal taper -- one of the things that makes his swords so handy.

The DSA is a brute of a blade that will take virtually anything you can throw at it and come up roses. Take the DSA, knock it apart to thin the blade profile, give it more distal taper, and sharpen it properly, and what you wind up with, will an all likelihood, handle like a H/T would straight out of the cardboard box.
Jump on the price man, they wont be this cheap forever. DSA and Hanwei will both be around for a long while, but the sale prices on the H/T are their own selling point right now.

I've got the DSA Knight and the H/T EMSHS, Viking and GSOW, and I have to echo most of what's been said up top. I kinda think this is an apples and oranges situation. DSA swords were originally designed to be reenactment weapons, hence the super tough blades and thick edges; while H/T swords are all about the performance: short on looks, long on handling. All that being said, the DSA is actually one of my BEST thrusters. With a board-stiff blade and a needle-like tip, it goes through just about any target I put in front of it.

Another vote for the H/T here. At their current prices, you could get 2 for the price of the DSA.

I think it is more a mater of personal preference just pick the one (or two) that you like, they are all good, to answer your question I think the NORMAN is the best looking

There was a similar discussion going on over at myArmoury - www.myarmoury.com/talk/viewtopic ... ght=tinker - except it was about blunts. The guy eventually bought both the Norman and the EMSHS because of the KOA sale

I love the H/T EMSHS, but all the H/T models are solid performers and at the price they are selling for right now they just cannot be beat.

It is a matter of personal preference. I like the EMSH sword. It feels very neutral in hand, which I like. Some people don't. My friend happens to like blade heavy swords so she can use gravity to help her generate force...so she likes the norman better. It should be noted that the scabbards on the norman is MUCH better then the EMSH and is peened...is such things matter. Over build wise, I prefer the norman...but the EMSH just feels better for me as a sword. If your unsure, I would say get the norman. It's just made better .

Congrats. You should be quite happy. I too have ordered the Norman (as well as a Bastard sword) and can't wait for it to show. I have handled and cut with the Tinker EMSH, I was just not a %100 a fan of the guard on that blade nor am I fan of the High polish on the Tinker line. So some re-polishing is in order for my Bastard for sure as well as a bluing project to keep me occupied until I can get new furniture for mine.

interesting observation napalm, I found just the opposite to be true, my H/T Norman sword scabbard was way to big, fortunately my del tin XI fits just fine even though it is a good 2 1/4" longer, where as the H/T single hand sword came with a scabbard that fit like a glove
