That looks like a pretty cool tool, Sam. Very wise that they went with Glock .40 magazines. Neat little package for transport. I would like to hear your thoughts on useability and reliability after you put 500-1,000 rounds through it. Very spiffy indeed.

Mike, I'll let you know of course, initial impressions are it's very well made. I liked the reputation the sub2000 had, did alot of reading googling both "sub2000 pros" and "sub2000 cons" and most just semprini about the sights and some early on extraction problems.

This could be a great travel piece. Since it's not a handgun, it may have definite legal advantages. And with the longer barrel and sight radius, it would be easier to shoot more accurately and with the higher muzzle velocity/energy: 180gr 40SW @ 1200 fps for 575 ft/lbs through its 16.1" barrel--that's 10mm performance. I had one of these in the 9mm format a few years back. They are definately fun little shooters, and I cna see their advantages in certian situations. I used to carry mine with the 33rd mags when I did off-duty personal protection jobs. It fits quite nicely into a briefcase or shoulder bag - very concealable.
I fall into the 'semprini about the sights' category. The only issue I had with the Sub2000 was the stability of the sight platform, they are flimsy, plastic, and the windage/elevation adjustment mechanism sucked - which does not allow it to be very accurate beyond 75-100 yards. The sights just have too much play in them. I eventually bought a Picatinny rail for mine that went on the forearm and put a red dot on it which improved the accuracy a good bit, however, it made the package as a whole less compact, because it hampered its ability to fold. I also tried the folding scope mount for 1" tubes that would still allow the weapon to fold, but since it was movable, it was pretty crappy about keeping a good zero. I eventually sold it and put the money toward an AR SBR project back in 04-05.
However, in the scenarios in which it's most likely to be used, longer ranges are not needed really. Slap a laser/light unit on it to the rail unit without adding an optic, zero it for 25 yards, and you'll be good.
You'll still have alot of fun with it - it's a good little shooter thats enjoyable to fire. Pretty reliable too, I don't recall every having a FTE/FTF problem with the thing in the few years I had it. For me, it was just too inaccurate at range for my liking. Let me know if they have made any improvements to the sights.

Got the s2k to the range finally, firing at 25 yards. took a couple mags to get used to the sights, now I need to fire on a large target to shot chase to really get the hang of them. put 100+ through it every round flawless, the gun was right out of the box too.

I am very impressed with this little rifle. It's smaller and handier than the standalone picture without contrasting references might suggest. (I've also been looking at the Kel Tec Su16 which nutnfancy raves about.) However, I found it distracting that the muzzle was not ALWAYS kept downrange (pointed in a safe direction) either during or after your weapon's check. Too many years of having Cooper's Gun Safety Laws drummed into me by trainers and fellow shooters here in AZ to let this slide. Cooper's Gun Safety Laws: (1) All guns are always loaded all the time (2) Never the let muzzle of your weapon cover anything you are not prepared to destroy (3) Keep your finger off the trigger until you've acquired your target (4) Be sure of your target and what is beyond.

I see that the rear sight is on the receiver half of the break point, and the front sight on the other half. Have you noticed any appreciable shift in zero to speak of due to this?
I would like to see a sight rail on top of the hand guard. Granted, one could not fold the weapon with a sight installed, but for those of us with aging eyes :geek: a quick mount red dot would be a desirable option.
