Hello, Just found this forum so I thought I would post an intro. I love swords, I clean and work with them everyday. Mostly Japanese, I like making shirasaya and tsuka's(ho). Been into them for many years, and still hardly know anything about them at all. This seems like a great forum to learn from, really glad to be here. My neighbor brought by two swords to see if I could get them identified. Can anyone help? This one has a little quarter inch brass/gold dot at the hilt right before the handle that says"proof", the blade is filigreed all the way and it has a little hinged flap on the guard. This one I believe is stainless steel, also filigreed with writing on both sides. Thanks for looking, Pavel

Hi Pavel.
First one is an 1827 Pattern British Naval Officer Sword. The absence of the crown over the anchor may indicate a fairly old version of the sword ( along with the decay of the scabbard ). The German officer sword is almost identical, but the handle is ivory or cellulite as opposed to fishskin.
Second one is junk. Without a hilt or a full pic of the blade it's hard to tell whats being replicated. Whatever it is, the quality of work on the forte doesn't look promising.

Thank You Dave. I found a lot of information on the navy sword on line.
