www.thescabbard.com/kurgan-fantasy-sword.htmli was just trawling and came up on this interesting number though not as accurate as the new marto version ,this one is being touted as functional (tempered carbon steel) does anyone have any info on this or own one?

i would highly question the tang construction...since they dont put it right out there what it is one can assume they dont want you to know. i would inquire about the construction from the seller and see what they say.

hmmm its a valid point saito, the tang does seem to be secured by a nut (very simmilar to my early a trim) id hazzard a guess that it isnt a rat tail (though i could be way off the mark with that statement) i think ill take youre suggestion and send them an email ,the blade does look like carbon (though that means nothing of course)
damn but im really tempted though :?

one thing to keep in mind. some sllers try to pass stuff off. i bought a sword blatently advertised as full tang...it had an 18 inch handle and a 8 inch tang...needless to say the handle broke and the helicopter of death paid a visit to my back yard and onea dads prized pine trees. its always best to be sure. it LOOKS to be made of quality. but ive even seen swords with rat tails with FAKE PEEN on the pommel...

Yeah they were made a couple of years ago and then discontinued I guess, I remember seeing a thread in the old SBG forum, mentioning them a couple of months ago when I first saw them on E-Bay. Sorry I don't have the link to the thread handy.

440 stainless? Nope its not functional no matter who says so although ive seen some manufacturers falsely represent their swords as functional to make sales, then you open the box and its already broken and your like wtf?

News Update: Bought the Hanwei functional Kurgan sword from Global Gear on EBay recently. Shipping was $80.00 AUD. The company e-mailed me yesterday wanting an additional $40.00 AUD for shipping. I asked for a refund which they did right away. Good customer service, but was not going to pay the additional money as I thought the original shipping to the US was right at my pain level. Sorry guys - no Kurgan to review.
