i just purchased the generation 2 irish hand and a half sword after reading the review on sbg. it looks, feels, and cuts fine but for some reason the sheath slides right off if i try to mount it vertically or hold it right side up. i called the seller that i purchased it from and he said that it's loose because the wood in the sheath expands and contracts seasonally. when i asked him how to make it tighter he gave me a list of temporary fixes like stuffing cloth into the top of the sheath but i wanted something more permanent. any advice would be appreciated. thanks.

Unfortunately the seller is correct, if your scabbard is in fact wood-cored there *will* be some expansion depending on humidity. The only way to get around that is to keep your scabbard in a humidor (protip: anything with a core is usually a 'scabbard', anything without is a 'sheath', IIRC) and that's not really practical.
Because of this expansion you may risk cracking the core if you put in anything extra, when the humidity goes up and the wood swells. What I would suggest for the nonce is "peacebonding" your sword-- winding a strap around the scabbard and hilt. Not only will this maybe look nice if you knot it up well, it's also a safety device... keeps the scabbard on, and if the sword falls down or someone dumb picks it up, it's not going to go flying!
When the humidity in your area increases, the core should swell as I mentioned, and the scabbard should fit better. If not, then you can try shimming it...

thank you for the suggestion. i actually ended up speaking to a carpenter and he gave me the suggestion of spreading several light coatings of wood glue on the inside of the scabbard to expand it. it worked really well but i will try your suggestion when i wall mount it so that gravity wont pull it down over time.

I have the same problem with a roman gladius I bought, what is this peace-bonding that you speak of?

I have a dsa sheath with the interlaced belt with kinda the same problem, something useful I do is when I wrap the belt around the sheath is I wrap it once or twice around the cross you could do the same just get or make a belt with kinda the same design.
