If I were going to get this sword I would need to seriously extend the hilt, which wouldn't be too hard with this sword I don't think. Good review mate, this sword looks like a real pearl, and a possible consideration for one of my next blades.

I have handled both, but have not compared them side by side.
Just comparing them in my head I would say the Arming is still feels lighter and quicker. The lightness of the DS Knight (as compared to other DS swords) is due to the tapered blade. It is still a very thick blade, so the Arming with a broader flatter blade will cut light targets better.
So as I have mentioned before it all comes down to what you want to cut. Pumpkins go with the DS Knight (sharpened of course) and for water bottles go with the Arming Sword.

Interesting pommel on that picture above. I don't see that as an option on your website. Is that one a custom? Do you have detailed pics of all the pommel options you offer? Thanks.

Some pommel decor is done through custom request work. If you're interested in it, I can certainly see if I can still get the parts I need.

i've been telling myself no more sub300 sword purchases for a while so i can save up and eventually get something higher end... hopefully albion... but this arming sword just looks so nice with those pommel inserts... damn you for tempting me Brian plus it'd be a perfect sword to try wrapping my own grip on (not that AOV's new custom grips don't look great... i just want a project... )

I'll go back to where I got the pieces and see if they're still available, and let you guys know.

That actually sounds like a sweet little sword.
Personally, I think that recess in the pommel cries out for a coin insert. Anyone know where decent medieval replica coins can be purchased? I've seen plenty of "pirate coins", but not many medieval ones.

Unfortunately, the piece I used for this particular sword is no longer available. Sorry.

I only asked for sharpening & the #2 pommel insert (also, thanks again for running the 15% off sale!). I am going to try my hand at the grip re-wrap (inspired by darkintruder's posting). I'm going to go for oxblood to eventually match the Albion Crecy I have on order (should arrive sometime this summer). Maybe I'll sacrifice one of my old footballs for some pigskin. Thanks again!

How is the blade flex on your sword. I have handled the Windlass XIV on two separate occasions and found that it flexed more then even even my fencing swords. I declined to buy if for that reason. I like stiff sword blades.
I also handled the Windlass type IV. I liked the stiffness on this one a lot better. It seemed like a solid thruster but this sword was just too short for my taste.

I find this blade to be pretty ideal for my tastes, though I wouldn't consider it a 'stiff' blade, and there really isn't much reverberation upon a whip test either.

Hi again Brian. I wanted to give you a heads-up here that I just sent an email about my order/backorder (re: grip wrap options). Thanks.

Brian,
I'm researching for future sword project. So I have a couple questions. I apologize if these have been answered but if so I've missed them.
Is this sword peened? Also, what is the harmonic balance like?

Brian, I'm researching for future sword project. So I have a couple questions. I apologize if these have been answered but if so I've missed them. Is this sword peened? Also, what is the harmonic balance like? Christian Hey Christian, yes it is peened as for harmonic balance, I'm not entirely sure I understand what you're asking. So I'll provide an answer based on what I think you're asking. I find the POB to be perfectly positioned, to add just enough blade presence to make it feel like you could hit something hard. Yet, it's POB makes it very lively and fast. This is bar-none the fastest sword I own. Doing a percussion test the blade will reveal approximately a .5" vibrating tip, which is very minimal. It isn't necessary at all to make contact with the point of percussion for the ideal cut because of this, so if there are any shortcomings it doesn't reveal them easily. A sword I would describe as poorly harmonically balanced would be the Gen 2 Dordogne. If you didn't hit the COP exactly on that sword, you would usually bat the target away. However, the Arming Sword I can honestly say is still the 'funnest' cutter I own.

Brian, My simple test for harmonic balance is to simply tap the tip against a hard non-metal. A harmonic problem will reply with a 'ring'. However I do understand that this can very much be hit and miss for a particular sword. So even if yours 'rang' or not I would simply ask Jason to conduct just such a test to aid in finding my desired piece. He's great about helping customers get what they are looking for. I was just curious about your piece. And by no means is a ring an indication of a throw away either. It just suggests that with heavy use I will need to be prepared for tightening the handle... not that intimadating really. Rigormootis, First of all, I believe I read somewhere that you are a fellow college professor, so if so then that is great. All my fellows are more or less of the belt and suspenders only variety. If not, then that is still great I'm afraid that your piece may not meet my needs because of my goal. I have completed most of a design that I will eventually apply to Oakeshott's suggested knightly armament. This includes my family heraldry in colors and symbol. So I very much need to put my own decor on the pummel. And I know that JB Weld is tough stuff.
