Hello again. I just bought a Ronin Katana 1045 Tsunami katana and was wondering how I would go about etching a hamon on it. Can I use the "vinegar and dish soap" treatment that is used to accentuate existing hamon? I don't want to ruin it with stupidity, so any advice would be appreciated.

I wonder if making a stencil and then using something like metal glo on the rest to create a contrast would work? Any ideas?

Just taking a shot in the dark here, but if you made a 2 way stencil (that covers either the edge side of the "hamon" and one that covers the blades body side of the hamon)then use a higher grade polish for one side then the other. Say (depending on your taste) 1000grit for the edge and 1200grit for the blades body?

read this topic on the old forum (i wonder why it hasn't been moved...) sbgswordforum.proboards.com/inde ... read=16232 the guy used a candlewax method that look like the way japanese make their clay temper (putting clay on the spine of the blade and heating the blade exept now it's with some vinegar and soap and candlewax for coating the spine )

Off topic but to answer Etienne,
I imagine most of the old forum's threads haven't been moved because they use different posting protocols or whatever; technical issues, to put it in the proverbial nutshell. It is quite nice of Mr. Southren to have kept the old forum around for reference, though.

Elheru:
The old threads haven't been moved because the original posters have not moved them (all it would really take is a quick copy/paste). If we mods do it, it will be under our names instead of the OPs and will contribute to our post counts, not theirs. I've been encouraging people to move their important threads since the inception of the new forum, and I'm sad to see how many people have not done so.
Back to your regularly scheduled topic.
