Some of my designs, from swords to armor, to even the occasional gun. A falcata/falchion/kukri hybrid sort of sword. My interpretation of my World of Warcraft character, Björn the Death Knight. His armor was based on several designs; 15th century german armor, the Death Knight tier 8 set (a set of class-specific armor, for those who don't play), the Lich King, the Witch King of Angmar from The Lord of the Rings... I think that's all of them. The runeblade is the result of many class periods wasted on doodling swords when I should have been taking notes, ha ha. Even though this isn't the greatest, it took far longer than I thought it would, as I literally took lots of sketching out for each separate armor piece, with many re-designs. I would say, draw the helm, then reach the shoulders and be like 'uh oh... man, what do I do with these?'. Repeat that for each piece of the suit and you get the idea. Now that the design is down, it'll be much easier and faster to make other pictures of him. And since it's from a fantasy video game, I get to make it super huge. That's closer to the size I wanted for the picture above, but I tried to to rein it in a bit. I would love to have a functional one made for me someday though!

Been away for a bit. In the meantime: My dream Bowie. 12 inch blade, 17.5 overall, 2.5 in wide at the widest, 1cm thick. Either a full or high flat grind, gabbon ebony scales on a full tang with brass and copper mosaic pin. Satin finish, on both the blade and brass quillions.

Something a little bizarre... If an assegai and the Albion Agincourt (Oakshott type XVa) had a baby, this is what you would get.

Looks kinda like a panzerstecher, one of those oddball specialized weapons you only see in period illustrations... which is a neat coincidence since I just posted one, myself.

Ha! Again it would seem that I've failed to create something unique! First that fantasy sword looking just like the Fable Blades Ring Wraith sword, now it looks like I've created an existing weapon without knowing! I'm on a roll here!

Happens to me all the time. I just think of it as successful proof of concept.

Not a sword, but I figure I might as well share this pencil sketch I did in high school. The suit used for reference is from Historic Enterprises. I didn't define the lames of the pauldrons enough, unfortunately... it all looks like one stripey piece.

Thank you very much! Fortunately, I had a great teacher and very clear source material! Plus having a passion for the subject always helps too. : )

It being Halloween weekend and all, I figured it'd be less of a bother if I used some necromancy on this thread. Got inkscape a couple of days ago, and re-did some of my old designs. Figured I'd share them here. First up, the fantasy sword I envisioned for my Warcraft character. While the design is freakishly similar to the Fable Blades Ring Wraith sword, I swear on pain of death that during the conception of the first design I had never laid eyes on it! I based it off of the Danish Oakshott type XVIIIe swords, with their unsharpened ricasso and very long hilts. As many foes in the Warcraft universe are heavily armored or thick skinned, this was meant to be an armor-defeating sword from the get-go, with the ricasso being used as a grip to utilize the half-swording technique in close combat. Were it to be an actual weapon, it would obviously be a dedicated two-hander. Probably somewhere in the neighborhood of 50 inches OAL, three British Hands of that constituting the hilt, with the unsharpened ricasso being just over another Hand in length. The ricasso itself I imagine would also be part of a large single fuller, with the rest of the blade being a rigid cross-section. Probably around 2.5 to maybe three inches at it's widest point, before sharply tapering to a point. As for distal taper, I have no idea... maybe you guys could help me out with that demension. Next is the third version of my dream Bowie knife. I moved the mosaic pin closer to the center of the hilt, and refined the crossguard. The false edge (though it wouldn't be so false if the knife was real, aka sharp) has been lengthened to about a third of the blade's overall length. The grind and dimensions are the same as stated in the version above. A real 'That's a knoife!' knife. Hopefully new and more exciting designs will be posted when I come up with them. Hope you enjoy!
