Hello all! I'm Adam, and I've joined this forum since it seems like a great place to ask questions and glean all kinds of useful knowledge. Hopefully someday I can return the favor. I would love to make a few knives when things warm up, but as a broke college student that makes things difficult. I have a slab of steel (one of those big elevator weights) to use as an improvised anvil, some hammers, a few worn out files, some hand tools, and basic knowledge of heat treating... I think I could make something vaguely resembling a serviceable knife if I had the chance. Problem is throwing together a forge. I have a big interest in ancient, medieval, and antique weapons & armor. Added to the fact that I'm a bit of a gaming nerd, and the interest is infectious. Sometimes I sketch out my own designs, the next best thing to actually making them, which is something I am dying to try someday. Already I am enjoying the forum quite a bit, having spent some time on a certain other forum which will not be named, where I found much of the community to be short with newcomers, and to be quite honest, rather full of themselves. This is not the case here at all from what I've seen, and I think I am going to enjoy myself immensely!

Welcome Adam. I hope you find a home here. The odd member gets a little testy from time to time, but the mods stay on top of things pretty well around here. Anyhow, glad to have you.

Hey buddy, I'd like to see some of your sketches. Also, have you been reading up about making your own forge in sword making section? Lots of great guys with much knowledge and they actually like to help! Unlike as on a certian unnamed forum that for me also did not Seem Friendly or Inviting -couldn't help myself

Welcome aboard Adam. I already like one of your knife concepts. Perhaps in time you can start producing some of them.

Welcome Adam, from noob to another. I used to sketch all kinds of Fantasy swords and daggers, if I had the knowledge, I could make some pretty wicked blades. Don't know how functional they would turn out, but would look cool. Right now though, I might be only able to muster up something resembling an Orc sword, flat blunt cleaving tool..lol

Welcome Adam, always good to have some new blood to spill. . . I uh mean new people to meet, yes that's it.
don't worry about those other forums. read them though, they may not be real nice all the time but they do have lots of really good info on them that is worth reading. especially if you dig deep enough you can find some real gems.
I'll name them, just in case you missed one.
Sword Forum International Myarmoury Arador armor archive forum there are others but these are the big ones. at least for the European sword and armour fan.
