So, I emailed Trueswords asking if they are shipping to Canada yet and this was their reply: (direct copy of their email) "Thank you for visiting our web site and contacting us. I am very sorry, we can only ship to the USA. For international sword shipping, please visit our friends at www.SwordCompany.com. Their company will be able to provide international shipping to many countries including Canada and Europe, with a complete list on their home page. SwordCompany.com ships UPS or FedEX (both priced about the same and offer package tracking) and they mark all shipments as Gifts. If you don't find an item on www.SwordCompany.com that is available on www.TrueSwords.com, please email the True Swords product url number to admin@swordcompany.com and they will add it to their site so you can order it. Please note that customs may charge an import tax on orders, and may not allow all products into your country. Thank you, Evan Johnson www.trueswords.com"

Again, Chrisperoni, there's that incredible deterrent presented by courier companies. They're a black hole looking to swallow our pocketbooks. In November, I bought a sword in a private sale off a member of this forum. I asked him to ship USPS, but not being savvy as to the issues, he decided to go UPS. The sword was $65. UPS charged $35 to ship. But first they passed it to their customs broker who decided that the sword was undervalued at $65. They adjusted it to $200 and charged me sales tax on that amount. Then they added their nebulous "brokerage fees" to the bill. Final tab? $165 for a $65 sword. I'm all in favor of giving businesses a fair shake, but if a US company can't get a product to me using USPS, I simply can't afford to order from them.

Yes- I too was very offput by the statement in the email about shipping, but then I found ths on the SwordCompany website: www.swordcompany.com/inshin.htmlQuote: "We use UPS to calculate shipping charges but we ship US Priority Mail - the cost is usually +/- a couple of dollars of the UPS charge." So it seems Trueswords is incorrect and SwordCompany knows the score. I would confirm this before ordering just to be sure but it looks like they already understand UPS is a wallet-eater.

I purchased a sword from Swordcompany once. you have to select the option of "International UPS" or some such wording, but it does indeed arrive via Canada Post, with the appropriate cost savings. It's about on par with SnA, cost-wise. That said, I didn't have all that pleasant an experience with them. It wasn't BAD per se, but Ty Tyree definitely strikes me as someone more concerned with profit/volume than good customer service. Not that he's unconcerned with CS it's just, well, I dunno. Talking with him on the phone while he prowls the warehouse shouting orders at his staff kind of gives me this impression. I subsequently ordered a couple of sword plaques and when he replied via email they're out of stock, the exchange was kind of brusque IMHO. Not a deal-breaker I suppose, but still... He did however exchange the sword for me no problem, and even threw in a "Miracle" polishing cloth on the deal. I suppose if he has something you really want, you should go for it. My personal opinion is that I can probably find what I want at another retailer with friendlier -err, different- service. Overall I guess I can't criticize specifics, I just get an iffy vibe. *shrugs* Since I found KoA there's no looking back for me. My 2 cents.
