I'm new. I know I don't make a very good first impression. Sorry for that.
I'm 19 and a male. I hope I can make some good friends on this site. Everyone seem to know their stuff.
I am a beginner. I love swords and I hate guns(they just aren't my taste)

Hi Kraken, I'm John.
I'm relatively new to collecting & wielding swords myself, though I've been interested in them all my life. I'm not a big fan of guns either. Nothing against them, they're just not for me.
What kinds of swords are you interested in? (European, asian, fantasy, etc.)

European and Japanese all the way! I love how the way they look traditionally. I kind of like fantasy but not too much because they aren't too realistic for me. What about you?

Then be clearer the next time you write. I am a combat veteran and I was offended. And you must think that before there were guns, there were no criminals who went around massacring innocent people using swords. Swords or guns are simply tools of war. They have no moral values unto themselves.

Please everyone. I'm sorry with what I said. I never thought of the war overseas. It crossed my mind. Let's all just forget about this.
I just want to buy a Katana. And indulge in the history of medieval knights and samurais.
Could you help me? It's in the beginner section.

So it was a misunderstanding due to unclear statement. I deleted my post. Welcome aboard! I apologize for my reaction. I have lost friends in war so I am very sensitive to the reputation of our fallen heroes.

I'm mostly into Euros, but I like Japanese too. I don't like most fantasy swords because they're often too ornate and look ridiculously impractical. I like ones that look functional and practical, but with a fantasy twist. The swords from Lord of the Rings and the Narnia movies, for example.

I too was much into Euro swords till I saw this video haha. Japanese Katana VS European Longsword The Katana broke the ice whereas the longsword didnt. Knight armor still rules.

Good to have you Kraken. I really like katanas, always have. I like euros too and have a Hanwei side sword. There are many others in this forum with much greater knowledge than myself and I learn from them all the time. I encourage you to do some reading in the Japanese and Medieval and Renaissance swords sections of the forum. These will give you some good insights into the types of swords as well as the manufacturers of those swords that will give you the most bang for the buck. or rather, the most Slice for the price. good luck to you!

Katana vs. Eurosword videos are a dime a dozen though, and their conclusions run the gamut. I saw another one where a longsword succeeded in breaking another sword in half, whereas a katana was damaged beyond repair by the same test.
In the end, they're both excellent swords and their performance depends more on the quality of the construction of the individual piece and of course user skill (R. Lee is awesome, but he's no swordsman) more than which style it is.

Hello and welcome Kraken. Don't take those videos too seriously mate. If the maker of the video wants a particular sword to come off best then they will (and I've seen both numerous times).
