This will be my first purchase of a functional sword,so far all were iaitos.I'm inclined to the custom katana of SBG,but the fittings are a bit "iffy"to me.I will need to customize. My other choice and I like it a lot is a Dynasty Forge Musha Class O Katana or Katana w/Musashi theme tsuba single ring(not double looped),but also will need some custom work. if I go for the Musha 1060,which store will you recommend in terms of fair price, quick delivery and low shipping costs. Can I do my own samekawa lacquering in black and how? Can I do my own tsuka wrapping w/leather ito? Can I exchange without much difficulty fuchi ,kashira and tsuba?I wan to mount in aikiguchi(sp?)style a Musha 1060 tanto too. Doing myself if is doable will lower the costs immensely.

There's quite a few good companies out there to make your purchase from. I can only give a recommendation for those I've dealt with. Two of my favorites are: www.wiwingtiswordsupply.comwww.kultofathena.comAs for the customizing, you can do anything you have the skill and the knowledge to do. There's a bucket of info on this forum, so check it out carefully. If you're a fairly "crafty" guy, most of this stuff isn't all that difficult.

There lies my dilemma,I'm not a crafty guy  . I guess that lacquering the same and re-wrapping the tsuka ,that i can do with a bit of practice(on the wrapping),but if by any chance I need to reshape the tsuka or-God forbids-replace because is cracked or something like it,then I'm a dead man, someone will need to do it for me. All of this is not a caprice(well, part is aesthetics,so is part caprice)but the full wrap of the same and tight wrapping is cause will be used in tameshigiri. Who will believe I'll use an O Katana in tameshigiri. Well,a lot of practice and developing good arms with an heavy oar bokken and will practice the movements with a 29" Cheness iaito that I'll buy too, probably before the O Katana if not at the same time.

changing the color of the samegawa is probably the easiest to do from your list. ito maki on the other hand can be fairly difficult at first and usually takes a lot of practice to get right so if your patient, you will eventually be able to do this on your own. changing parts can go smoothly if your lucky but more often requires some tweaking of the tsuka core and or new parts and pieces to get a good fit. again, patience is absolutely necessary if you want to learn to do these things yourself but if you stick with it you can pull it off with some basic tools. one thing I find happens pretty often when re-wrapping the tsuka is you need to adjust the length of the core to allow for the end knots to come out on the correct sides. this can be tricky and sometimes frustrating so take it slow and ask a lot of questions along the way. there are a few places to have customizations done without spending a fortune and you can check some out in the "sword customization" section I would suggest reading the many threads and looking at some of the awesome tutorials on youtube for now to familiarize yourself with the process
