My interest in Roman weapons has been rekindled courtesy of a heapin' helpin of Spartacus: Blood & Sand and a recent reinstallation of Rome: Total War. So, naturally I've been keeping my eyes peeled for reasonable deals on Roman arms and armor. After pouring over the Roman Section at KoA I'm trying to decide on where to start.
Albion produces amazing quality weapons, but at a price to match.
Del Tin seems to also have quality items that are historically accurate, but even they are a bit on the pricey side, oh and they don't come sharp.
Generation 2 seems too heavy and historically inaccurate, but the price is fairly acceptable and I'm not worried about them breaking.
Kris Cutlery Pompeii Gladius seems eminently functional and reasonably accurate considering the price, but I've never actually seen one available on KoA's website (It's one of the perpetually backordered pieces).
Windlass Products have a great price point and I don't doubt that they're functional, but they're lacking in historical accuracy.
Deepeeka is the great unkown. Their products are cheap, they look good on pictures, they seem reasonably historically accurate and they are rated as functional "Battle Ready" (if a bit heavy), but they don't come sharpened and I'm not sold on whether they'd actually stand up to the punishment of sharpening and backyard cutting.
So, do ya'll have any recommendations on a good roman starter blade? What about the Deepeeka line? I've only ever seen one review for one of their Gladii and it didn't speak too highly of their durability.
