So..I was looking on the site..bytheswordinc.com(apparently their new site), and I saw this.. www.bytheswordinc.com/p-358-leat ... 00764.aspx Now I know for a fact, that this has been discontinued according to KOA and Museum Replicas. But, By The Sword tells me in the first email.."We custom make this to order." I know that this is made by Windlass, so I asked them, "Well, is this something you guys make as a replica?" Their response was, "Yes". And apparently takes about 2 weeks to make. Why then, do they only show a picture of Windlass' item and not theirs? And only 2 weeks time to make something like this? This sounds extremely fishy too me.

Sounds like at the least they are clipping/stealing photos of other makers products- not a good sign if they can't show their own work. They could also be pretending to make their own stuff and might have warehouse full of these... Either way it seems sketchy to me and I'd stay away. If you are going to have it made for you then go with a seller who gives examples of their own work- not ones who use others (probably copyrighted) photos and scams their designs (or straight up makes up stuff they tell the consumer)

I've tried shopping here on an off over the years, and the experience has generally been frustrating. They are primarily a forwarding company with no stock to speak of. You almost always have to wait for things, and too often the wait ends with an email telling you it is no longer being produced for one reason or another.
This is not to say that they might somehow turn something up for you, but don't bet on it.
If the advertisement is for a Windlass, and they tell you it's something else they make themselves, frankly, that's a flat out lie. I wouldn't pursue this. Try another route. It will save you some grief.

Aye, my last few buys were frustrating with them. I ended up waiting two months for what was advertised as a battle ready foil, instead ended up with a mostly decorative stainless steel piece that I'm afraid to spar with, as it doesn't feel very flexible at all.
Also, the fact that they used UPS before I knew about brokerage fees really pissed me off.

Yea, I don't think I will pursue this any further. I wonder what they would have done if someone had clicked and purchased this? Tell them, "Oh this is no longer available but, we can make you one of ours". And exactly..no pictures shown nor were any offered by the customer service rep, when we were emailing back and forth so..not good in my book.

The only time that I have dealt with them the order was easy and I had my item in about a week. It seems like I got lucky and this was just a freak occurrence. I agree with everyone else though a diamond in the rough is not good enough to chance if you get what I mean.

I dealt with them some years back, and they were not bad then. Pity that is not true now, but at least we have KOA.

I've ordered from them several times in the past and never had any problems with my orders. That being said, though, when you ask them questions the staff is generally not knowledgeable about their products.

Kult of Athena is awesome. I have only been dealing with them for a short while, but they are extremely reliable. Only wish they would get more variety of clothing. But, not that big of a deal. Their prices more than make up for that.
