Hi, my name is Dan and I am new to both this site and edged weapon collecting. I have always owned at least one high quality knive, in the late 80's I bought a "Cold Steel" SRK & a Trail Master, both are still with me, a bit scarred but still very functional. Last April, I met a friend of my father in-law and this fellow had quite a large collection of small folding knives, all under glass cases. I thought that was a pretty cool thing to do so I decided to start collecting with an emphesis on the brand "Cold Steel" and also toward swords. Like a dummy, I bought several swords that I thought looked good and could be used in some emergency. Well a couple of months later I ran into Paul's site and after spending just a little bit of time, found that ALL my swords were nothing but JUNK, good thing my wife had a garage sale LOL. Since that time, I acquired 28 pieces from Cold Steel, quite a variety, from folders to fixed blades, spears, war clubs, hawks and just recently my first sword of that brand a "Grosse Messer". I also have been buying several "Musashi" swords and a couple of "Shinwa" damascus blades. I am now saving my pennies for a "Cheness 30 inch Nagasa 9260 Katana OR as recommended by Paul, a Ronin-O-Katana. Like an old saying, "Patience my ass, I want it NOW" LOL I hope to have pictures of my small but growing collection as soon has I have it displayed on my office wall. Wishing you all a Great day. Dan Landers,CA

Welcome aboard Dan. Sounds as though you have quite a good collection underway. Believe me I understand the "want it now". Trouble is, anything I order is half the world away and takes 3-4 weeks to arrive. If you need any suggestions or help with decisions everyone here is always happy to help you spend your hard earned dollars. See you around MT

Waiting for delivery of a brand new sword after you've bought it online is like being a kid waiting for Christmas. The days seem to stretch on and on and on and you can't wait to see that long box of sharp and pokey metal goodness waiting next to your door! I honestly have no clue how people can wait for custom jobs... I mean there are smiths out there that have waiting lists 2 years long (Raven Armoury comes to mind)... That's why I'm always grateful for vendors that have expedited shipping and a current inventory. Welcome to the board Dan!

Thank you all for your welcoming comments. Today I had a new sword waiting for me from Sword Direct, it was an old VIKING model from Valiant (reviewed on this web site), it is plain yet that makes it attractive, it is very well made, blade is straight, sharp and well finished, it is quite a bit heavier than any other of my swords, it came at 4.10lbs, with the sheath it is 5.14lbs! It cuts plastic bottles (filled) quite well but I will try it on other mediums soon. BTW they have it on sale for $99.00! It took 7 days from time of purchase to get here, not bad since it came from Florida! That site is currently having a nice big sale going on, I think IF I can butter up the wife (I'll cook diner and do the laundry tomorrow afternoon)I will order an arming sword (from Valiant) also for $99.00 on Friday. Have a Great Day. Dan.
