I managed to pick this one up for $116.76 Plus $35.00 shipping,
The sword arrived within one week.
It came nicely packed in a wooden display box complete with Cleaning Kit, Stand, very nice silk coloured sword bag, imitation leather strap for carrying over you shoulder, and Certificate of manufacture.
The sword was as usual covered in oil and after cleaning, the blade appeared to have a grey sheen on it as if it was not very well polished, anyway after a good clean up and a rub over with a bit of Autosol polish it started to look really nice.
The blade was not as sharp as I like them so after and couple of minutes with my sharpening method it would take the hair off your arm quite nicely.
There is no Hamon on the blade which was a bit disappointing, but it does have a very nice Hada.
The Ito is genuine leather, feels good and is tightly wrapped (after seeing the review on the Musashi Hiro sword I was a bit worried about the Ito, however it's well done on this sword).
The Blade has a Bo-Hi and makes the nice zingy (can't remember the proper name for it) sound as it goes through the air. After a couple of practice swings I did a few cuts on rolled up newspaper, the sword cut as I expected very clean with no torn edges,
In summing up I think the sword is good and is presented very nicely in it's red silk lined box, I don't think I would like to pay $590 or even $390 for it but I believe it was a good buy for the $116.76 that I paid, the only other folded blade I have to compare it with, is my Paul Chen "Green Bamboo Snake Katana" and that's a much nicer sword, however it did cost a bit more than $116.76. The shoulder strap supplied with it seems impossible to use, I'm 5' 9" and I cannot draw the sword from it's Saya from over my shoulder, these guys must have arms about 5' long
Historical Accuracy: N/A
Fit and Finish: 4/5
Handling: 5/5
Structural Integrity: 5/5
Value for Money: 5/5 at the price I paid
OVERALL: 4/5
However all up if you can get one at a reasonable price I think it's a pretty good buy.
All the best....Boony
