Hi guys, I just recently was on E-bay and couldn't pass up this excellent bargain for a Euro (Medieval?) One handed sword. It was listed as a 1060 carbon steel tempered blade (not folded) full tang and wooden handle. Also comes with a synthetic leather scabbard. (blade came well oiled) The P.O.B feels to be about 5 or 6" from bottom of cross-guard. The seller posted extremely fast and it arrived today which was good. Sword looks very nice and has a fairly light and easy to wield feel to it. The blade is dull though. It was listed as a "Solingen" sword, I'm not that familiar with this type. I'm interested to know which Country and time period this kind style originated. It looks similar to some others I've seen on this forum, except the pommel isn't rounded. Would anyone happen to know who makes this as well? There was no manufacturer information available. In the meantime it has been good for practice swinging and thrusting. I'll be getting a proper battle ready sharp Euro next in a few months. I'm getting so addicted to swords lately and I'm always on the look out for my next one to grow my collection.. Any help appreciated. Cheers.

Yep... Its from Global Gear.... it is what they call the Solingen Sword for one reason or another... Solingen is a city in Germany which is known for blade production...razors,knives,swords.... This sword is not at all what I think of when I think of Solingen swords...I tend to think of much later militaria... The pommel is a cocked hat pommel.... and was popular in Germany in the 13th century... one reason, I suppose they are calling it a solingen sword... www.globalgear.com.au/prod2478.h ... medium=cpc

Apar83, would be great if you could do a review on that guy. doesn't have to be anything elaborate just measure it and weigh it (as best you can) and tell us what your impressions are even if you don't know much about swords your opinion can still be valuable. if you want to cut with it we love cutting video, but mostly just take pictures and talk about it.
I like that pommel I wonder how much it weighs. is it threaded on?

Thanks for the help guys, Yeah i remember Global Gear. That's where i got my G-509 Katana directly from. Well I'll be happy to list some more impressions and specs that i can muster of this "Solingen" when i get back home from work.
I would love to cut with it, unfortunately its not sharpened. I don't have any watermelons to swing through
I still need to sit down and devote some time to learning proper sharpening. I would love to try it on this baby since it was fairly inexpensive.
Oh and Tom, the pommel doesn't seem to unscrew and it feels quite solid.
Cheers.
