I have been asked how the eddy3 is holding up. Take a look.
Despite batting a number of bottles and four or five cutting stand strikes, eddy is doing well except for one of the grip rings being a bit loose. I figure eddys cut a few hundred bottles by now. I like him fine.

Get rid of the grip rings. First thing you need to do if you are using a MR Narnia sword. Snip!
Thanks for the update. Good to see your proficiency level soaring.

Thanks, Brian and Brenno. I like the grip rings, they're purty. Only the one is a bit loose, I'm thinking of a way to tighten it.

Have you had any hard hits with it? Essentially, I'm asking a question of how well the sword has held up with bad hits, or heavy cutting.

Brian, I've batted ten or so bottles pretty good, especially before I got it sharpened well, and wacked my cutting stand a few times (did it in the vid once). It's still solid and no movement in the fittings (except the afore mentioned grip ring). I have only cut bottles, probably over 200 by now, and stabbed that litterbucket. The peened section is considerablly smaller than my Gen2s, which gave me pause but it's holding up well. I'll get a comparison pic up when I get a chance. All in all I find it to be a solid sword so far tho I think my older Gen2s seem more duable to me. Also there have been problems with other hanwei euro swords and I would keep that in mind. I like the way this sword handles tho and it's fun to cut with.

Here's the peen comparison. The one on bottom is a Gen2 12th century. There is another video of me cutting with eddy on the general sword training board under cutting techniques.

Hey Ric. How is that ring attached? I'll think about it too. Epoxy is the 1st thing that comes to mind. The Narnia ones just have a small nail in one side - crap. So off comes the middle one.
What makes you say the G2 seems more durable? Other than the peen. Is the Hanwei whippy, or has it taken any set? Or does it lose its cutting edge faster?

The rings on Eddy are just epoxied in place with 2-3 dabs of epoxy. Work it loose where you can slide it just a bit. Then dab some epoxy on it's spot, slide it back, wipe away the excess and let dry. Should then be better than new.

Yo Brenno, looks like the ring was just slipped on, no nails or anything holding it I can see. I might just take the two small ones off and leave the larger center one. I have thought about epoxy but don't see how I would do it without making a mess on the grip.
Eddy isn't whippy nor has he taken a set. It doesn't appear to lose it's edge any faster either. I don't really know squat about steel but the blades feel different to me. Actually the eddy has a better flex than the gen2 12th cen without being whippy. The gen2 viking has more flex than the eddy tho not what I would consider whippy and is a very good sword imo.
I got the 12th century off of ebay second hand a few years ago so it made before they "improved" the line. The viking I'm thinking may be of the newer stuff as I got it later, but don't remember when. The blade on the 12th cen is a bit thicker tho it is only a tad heavier ( maybe a 1/8 pound) than the eddy.
I reckon I don't have any real reason to say the 12th is more durable except due to the peen and the failures I have read about. I think it handles better than the gen2s, tho what do I know I just muck about with my blades. LOL
What with the issues with gen2's newer stuff (I know it's supposed to have been fixed, but who knows what is still out there floating around) and the hanwei problems looks like a crapshoot either way these days.
Hmmm, don't know if I been any help, but there you go.
(edit) Thanks, Mike, you posted while I was typing, I think that's probably the way I'll go. I have grown to like those rings.
